Euan Burton defeated British team-mate Tom Reed to secure a World Cup judo gold.
Former world bronze medallist Burton, 30, went behind early on but an ippon throw secured the Edinburgh-based judoka the -81kg title in Birmingham.
"It was a tough final because we know each other's judo well," he said.
"It wasn't my best performance but I have beaten some good guys.
"I think it is a disadvantage fighting your team-mate. It is really nerve wracking and it was a really tough fight.
"Tom fought really well. I am British number one and I was against an up and coming athlete so there was a lot of pride at stake.
"But I think it was really good for the British crowd to have an all British final."
Great Britain - who endured such a disappointing Olympics last year - finish the World Cup with an encouraging four golds, one silver and four bronze medals - positive results as head coach Patrick Roux looks towards London 2012.
In addition to Burton's success, Sarah Adlington won the women's +78kg title, defeating Italy's Lucia Tangorre in the final.
"I'm pretty happy with that," she said.
"I'm pleased with the performance throughout the day. There weren't so many heavyweights here this year but it was good to fight some different athletes.
"My goal is to keep improving as we head towards London 2012."
Elsewhere, Sian Wilson secured bronze in the women's -78kg with a victory over Germany's Maike Heinz.
Wilson thought she'd been omitted but a revised decision gave her a repechage chance - even though she was about to check out of her hotel.
"It wasn't the best way to prepare for a fight," she admitted.
"I was already back at the hotel. I think though that it didn't give me an opportunity to get nervous. I was just stressed which was probably good because I could use that emotion in my fight
However, Great Britain's Peter Cousins and Chris Sherrington both missed out on medals after losing bronze medal fights in their respective -100kg and +100kg classifications.
