Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell wants to draft in a replacement striker to cover for the injured Jamie Ward.
Ward, 23, tore his hamstring after opening the scoring in Friday night's derby win over Sheffield Wednesday and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.
Blackwell told Press Association Sport: "There's nothing to report with regards to making further progress, but we're hoping to bring someone in yes. We shall have to see.
"It's an on-going process, but we're not going to just sign anybody to boost the numbers.
"If we have to we'll stick with what we've got because we have enough quality strikers here not to worry about it."
Ward, a £333,000 signing from Chesterfield in January, fired his fourth goal of the season at Bramall Lane on Friday.
