West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt has revealed he was looking forward to a return to the Riverside for a number of years - with Saturday's 5-0 romp certainly worth the wait.
The Northern Ireland international started his career with Middlesbrough's Academy but was never given his chance to shine, signing for Sheffield Wednesday before his move to the Baggies.
But he certainly made his mark when he went back to the north east at the weekend, grabbing a brace and pulling the strings in midfield to help secure Albion's biggest away league win for more than 32 years.
Brunt told the club's official website: "Middlesbrough is where I started my career but I never got the chance to break through. But I've got a lot to thank Middlesbrough for in terms of my career.
"It's nice to come back and get a good result, to score twice is pleasing as well. It's a game I've been looking forward to for a couple of seasons. Last year I missed the game here through injury.
"I think the result will raise a few eyebrows but it's still early doors. We'd have come here and taken 1-0 but 5-0 looks really good. Hopefully it sends out a message to the rest of the league."

Kenneth K your memory is going mate. the Bomber Brown goal was at Sheffield Wednesday in the cup. If Chris Brunt could become another Tony Brown then all our troubles are over. I reckon the lad Chris Wood is a better bet.
Yawn....
Well, t'was nice to be part of the 1200 following fans, paying OUR money to follow them home and away and of course a reason why some of us, ALSO choose to say what DISPLEASES us when it is OUR HARD earned money !
Soon we shall be without a few first teamers with their poor bookings mainly for dissent and the 'ronnies' you know the one, where they trip over their laces in and around the penalty box, it kinda blotted his good performance Messers Thomas again to get booked for diving ... but the drive home was pleasant :D
Brunty is a good guy at SET pieces, but still not the WHOLE shilling, BUT well done for RDM for playing 442 ! unlike his 451 at home ... thought Mowbray had returned for a minute ... OH they dont call it that anymore they kinda go with 4411 soon will be 4111111 at that rate :P Boing Boing
Well Chris,we need you to play like that EVERY week, you have to admit you are a lazy sod and yet you could become a legend at WBA,i have a solution for you before you go out to play get put in a trance whereby you think you nare going out face `Boro ha ha
great second goal for you, reminded me of the one Bomber Brown scored at Leicester all those years ago past Shilton 30yrds never got more than 2ft off the ground, boing boing
