Hughes refutes penalty decision

Walsall captain Mark Hughes has stressed his innocence after being penalised for the 80th-minute penalty that earned Swindon a 1-1 draw at the Banks`s Stadium on Saturday.

The Saddlers were heading for a welcome victory until referee David Webb adjudged Hughes to have handled Tope Obadeyi`s cross in the area. Billy Paynter then stepped up to fire home just five minutes after finding the woodwork with his first spot-kick.

Hughes told the Express and Star: "I thought he (Webb) was wrong. I didn't think I could get out the way, if someone smashes the ball at you from two yards what can you do?

"It was harsh because I couldn't really get out of the way. I slid in and the referee said `you're arms were up' but I said `you can't slide with your arms by your side.'

"They scored it, we huffed and puffed at the end, but the positive is we haven't lost the game."
