Hughton hails composed Carroll

Mon, 21 Sep 15:40:09 2009

Caretaker Newcastle boss Chris Hughton saluted young striker Andy Carroll after seeing him finally kill off bottom-of-the-table Plymouth.

The 20-year-old frontman smashed home his second goal in four days to cement a hard-fought victory and enhance his blossoming reputation as the Magpies climbed back into second place in the Coca-Cola Championship.

"He has done ever so well, big Andy Carroll. He was out for a period of time and had only had two days' training with the team before the Blackpool game," said Hughton.

"He got stronger and better as the game went on and as well as scoring a goal, he could have perhaps added another one to it."

  2. cameron w, Bobby Robson A Legend, CARL, Bob R, Tony K for the Toon and Jack, P wilson and Patrick (even Sean is begining to shape up) for the Mackems (many apologies to anyone I haven't mentioned) all come on here to banter about footie, sometimes it's a bit of fun, other times it can get serious and sometimes people get a little wound up but not what I would call offensive; yeh I know Sean but he's getting better not worse.
One thing we have all got in common regardless of who we follow is that we can all stand our ground. 'Isn't this thumb downer someone who can’t?'
I don't know how you all feel about it but it seems to me that as one saddo disappears (BARRY, Impactclean etc another appears.
I think we are going to have to put up with it for quite a while before he gets sick because whoever it is has found something he feels he is good at and it gives him a sense of power and control that he could never achieve through dialog.

  5. Article on sunday from one of the broadsheets. Ashley has accepted an offer for 100 mill from an un named source. Assumed confidently to be Moat. barclays Bank is also now satisfied. Over now to the lawyers to complete the sale documentation. Nearly the end of the road. Shame that Hughton may be relegated to the reserves or pushed out. Without him there would have been little to buy.

  6. Carrol was a different player when Ranger came on to assist. Barton had a shocker.

  11. Let's face it our last league cup match cost us Shola and Jonas. We need to risk as few as possible of the 1st team regulars, although Barton and Lovenkrands should have a game as they will be pretty fresh having done nowt yesterday.

  14. Comment 3, I would play the kids on Tuesday. With Ashley holding back, we are going to have to call on them before long so I say give them as much experience as possible.
Let's face it , we aren't going to win the League cup anyway and in the last round, we lost two important players through injuries.

  16. Let's hope he actually lives up to the promise unlike a certain other striker (and I use that term loosely).

Agree with you Cameron he needs an old head up there with him but with Cashley keeping the piggy bank hidden away don't know how or where we will manage to get 1.

  17. Carroll needs to learn to bully defenders; far too many times yesterday he was brushed aside. He's a big lad and has massive potential; obviously he is still not 100% match-fit but the signs are promising - could do with an old pro alongside him perhaps?
