Injuries blight Spurs' defence

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is facing a defensive crisis after losing Ledley King and Sebastien Bassong during the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

King was substituted because of a hamstring injury on, and Bassong left the field with concussion after falling awkwardly in a collision with Nicolas Anelka in the Barclays Premier League match.

Spurs are already without injured central defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson and now King, who does not train with the squad during the week because of a long-standing knee problem, may be out for six weeks.

"Ledley has done his hamstring," Redknapp confirmed.

"He's the most fantastic person and player - and he's so important for us - but if you don't train you can't just go out and play without doing hamstrings, groins or calves.

"Bassong doesn't look too good, either. He got a bang on the head, and his eye's all swollen up. It doesn't look too clever at all. The doctor took him to hospital with concussion.

"Woodgate's nowhere near playing again. He went to see a specialist again on Saturday and he just can't train.

"We haven't got to the bottom of the injury at all, what's causing him discomfort. Dawson has a chance - he's the one."

  3. Spurs have so many attacking options. But why oh why doesn't Harry buy decent defenders that are able to stay fit for much of a season... Painful!

  4. Harry has put real belief back in our camp.Lets not jump on he doom and gloom bandwagon again.Itkink he will deliver this season without us sitting on the edge like most seasons.Man.u /Chelsea were a wake up call, and HAARY WILL WAKE THE PLAYERS UP.

  5. The wheels look like they are falling off our season already, Kings injury is a major problem now. The cover is not up to it at all. Corluca is far too slow to be in our side, he struggles against any pacey players.........he makes Ashley Cole look world class!!

  6. Spurs should stop sacking their managers and simply sack their medical team. Has been the CURSE of Spurs for years! They'll assemble a good squad, the current being one of the best yet cannot play their 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice teams! Nightmare,

  7. Typical!!!!! INJURIES BLIGHT SPURS!!!! What season in the last 5 have we not heard that sentence. Really think Spurs have got the best team for a long time when all are fit but without bassong king woodgate and dawson in defence i cant see us breaking the top 6! we really missed Modric on sunday there was a real lack of creativity going forward. Cannot understand why it took so long to bring Crouch on and change tactics as we just could not break them down and would have had more of a chance using crouch and playing the long ball earlier in the match!!!
