League look into County takeover

Mon, 21 Sep 22:02:56 2009

The Football League has confirmed it is investigating the takeover of Coca-Cola League Two club Notts County.

The Magpies have been causing a stir since Middle East consortium Munto Finance bought the club this summer with the appointment of former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson as director of football and the recent signing of Sol Campbell.

Mystery surrounds who is actually behind Switzerland-based Munto Finance with executive chairman Peter Trembling, the former commercial director at Everton, fronting the consortium of investors.

The Football League has not yet rubber-stamped the takeover and is demanding to know the identity of the club's owners.

A Football League spokesman said: "We have received Fit and Proper Persons documentation. Discussions are ongoing with regard to the club's ownership structure."

County could face severe sanctions from the Football League if they continue to breach rules and fail to identify the men behind the money being injected into the club.

  1. Interesting isn't it how it's only the lower league clubs that get threatened or are harshly done by - look at last season when the League effectively kicked Luton out by docking them 30 points, Rotherham probably missed out on a play off place.

Get sent off or charged in non-league football and the locacl County FA will ban you for weeks or months . . . a bit different to the Premier league where you can deliberately kick somebody in the head and only get a 3 game ban - no police involvement - try something similar in a Sunday game with no TV cameras and see how fast you pick a crimminal record up, or you can illegally sign players, be found guilty and surprise surprise only get a rap on the wrist, no points deducted, not kicked out of the competition, just a "small fine"

Perhaps the "spokesperson" (has he been named???) and the suits of the league should tested against the "Fit and Proper Persons" documentation they quote . . . too much back pocket and old boys scams going on if you ask me.
