Michael Owen is in no doubt Manchester City will be among the leading lights in the Barclays Premier League this season.
Owen dramatic injury-time strike gave Manchester United a 4-3 victory over their rivals but City went toe-to-toe with their illustrious neighbours and were within seconds of claiming a morale-boosting draw.
"Manchester City have been quite impressive since the start of the season," said the former Liverpool striker.
"You would think they will be up at the right end of the table.
"Everyone is guessing how far up the table that is. Whether it is a European place or a Champions League place I am not sure. But I definitely think they will be up there."
The calmness Owen displayed as he finished off Ryan Giggs' sublime pass in the sixth minute of stoppage-time was a reminder of the quality the 29-year-old still possesses.
Owen has only started one game this season, the defeat at Burnley last month, which goes some way to explaining why his present tally is just two.
He should get another opportunity on Wednesday though, when United tackle Wolves as they begin the defence of the Carling Cup at Old Trafford.
"Some games you get four chances and don't score, then you get criticised, other times you get one chance and you score," he said.
"That is the hard bit as a striker. You have to ride all the emotions and waves. You get criticised when you miss a few. You take the adulation when you score."

Relegated MS, have a word with yourself' if your capable you brainless Moron, Do you think Corn Beef Face' would have got an old time crocked, useless excuse for a striker if he had any money, the Rags are broke, They owe out 750,000,000 the club isn't worth a third of that, and how much is the interest on that loan? So who's going to bale you out Brainless Loud Mouth, you're dead in the water... wait and see.
No doubt Belamy is still good. He scored two great goals. But bad defending let the team down.
ericphillips - I thought Bellamy was fantastic against united. I think he's shown he should have one of the striker slots for himself and the remaining strikers need to fight it out for the other 1 slot between them. Unforetunately, when Adebayor, Santa Cruz & robinho return i can see ballamy being dropped or moved to a wing position cos Tevez, Adebayor & robinho will be ahead of Bellamy in the pecking order.
If it had been the other way round, with City attacking then the referee would have blown his whistle EARLY
This is a joke. Pay big money for defenders and what happen ........let in 7 goals !!!
city will get relegated they have no defence whatsoever. They are USELESS at defending set pieces Other teams will get 4 or more goals past them a lot this season.Their bubble has burst !!! three cheers for michael owen hip hip.................................
City have a great squad, Mark Hughes has bought well, as for mistakes by the Rags' for our goals' Ericphilips' you've got to be a Rag Fan' apart from the first by their joke of a keeper' the others were class, far superior than the poor' goals our defence gave the Rags' Defensively we were poor on Sunday, Micah Richards and Sean Wright Phillips were responsible for letting the Rags old timers, and Freebies' get the ball over most of the time, Richards needs getting rid of, and SWP needs a good talking to off the Manager, but, we're on the way up, and the Rags' are on their way down, The Blue Moon is certainly Rising, Live with it Rag' supporters.
Are you telling me the top four wouldn;t be able to fit in Robinho, Adebayour and Tevez into the squad or starting line up? All 3 are better than Liverpools & Arsenals second best striker's.
The squad they have is as good as most out there, after all which other team could have 3 quality forwards out and still have a quality front 2 and score 3 at Old trafford?!
The biggest problem City have is they don't have a leader at the back Lescott looked good next to Jagielka. Toure looked good when next to Campell (Toure not player he was).
Micah Richards is still living off the hype from a few years ago and needs a kick up the arse to become the world class players that he should be.
thats true .given and barry hane been the reason u have started so well.
Referee favours your team and now you are telling silly things........
Hmm. Is he preparing for a Tevez-like move? Or may be he just keeping his options open. After all, City has more cash than United
HEHEHE OWEN,YOUR VERY FUNNY,AFTER DEALING WITH THEM...WHAT A JOKE. VIVA UNITED
City rhymes with what they are
City rhymes with what they are
Mark Hughes has taken the best pot of money we are ever likely to get and he has wasted it on a set of misfits - if we have to rely on the mistakes of players like Foster to get goals against the top sides then we are going to back in mid table at he end of the year
Hughes was given an open cheque book but apart from Given and Barry we have a bunch of players that the rest of the top five dont want
legend.. first.
