Stimson focuses on football

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is eager to focus on his squad rather than become embroiled in a row with Charlton after the lengthy pursuit of striker Chris Dickson ended in disappointment.

Dickson scored 11 goals in 14 appearances for Gillingham two seasons ago but he joined Bristol Rovers on loan from Charlton rather than the Gills.

"It was really messy, it doesn't help us being so close to them but we have just got to get on with the players we've got," he told BBC Radio Kent.

"The kid just wants to play football. Being the rivals of Charlton didn't help."

Meanwhile, chairman Paul Scally told the Kent on Sunday: "I don't really want to have any dealings with Charlton other than those I have to have, ever.

"Phil Parkinson (Charlton manager) appears to be paranoid that Chris Dickson was going to come and do well under Mark Stimson. That seems to be the basis on which they wouldn't let him come to us."

  1. What a load of nonsense !! We all know there must be a personality clash between Pqrky & Dicko at Charlton otherwise he would be part of the current squad. All the fans know he can score whereas poor young Izzy McCleod couldn't hit a barn door from 2 paces. Gillingham has nowt to do with the issue it's purely personal and the sooner it's over the better, just as long as Dicko is not allowed to sign for anybody permanently before we play the relevant team, because it's 'Sod's law' he will score against us.
