Exeter boss Paul Tisdale expressed his delight that fit-again striker Adam Stansfield marked his return to the side with both goals in the 2-1 home win over Tranmere.
The win was a perfect boost for City ahead of their trip to second-placed Charlton Athletic next Saturday.
Tisdale praised Devon-born Stansfield's scoring contribution, saying: "It was his first start of the season and he scored two goals and I am pleased for him.
"He is a grafter, a team player and he has staying power. They are fine qualities for a player whether you are at Exeter City or Manchester United. They are qualities to be an effective footballer."
