Aldershot manager Gary Waddock believes his side are reaping the benefits from a change in tactics on the road this season.
The Shots were beaten 16 times away from home last term as they adapted to life back in the Football League but moved up to fifth in League Two on Saturday with their second away win at Crewe.
Waddock said: "Sometimes you have to grind our results. Last season we did not do that but this time we are starting to.
"It goes to show the character of the players. Going a goal down, we could have crumbled. We got better, in terms of defending, as the game went on and then we caught them on the counter attack.
"We've been trying to get it across to the players that you need to be a little bit more solid, more compact, away. Plus we have pace in the team and can catch other teams out on the break."
