Milan have been forced to deny rumours that they are set to sign Roma defender Philippe Mexes.

FOOTBALL Philippe Mexes - Roma - 0

"The reports in several local newspapers regarding the possible arrival of Mexes to the Rossoneri in exchange for Marek Jankulovski and Daniele Bonera have no truth whatsoever," the club announced on their website.

Frenchman Mexes had been linked with a January swap for Czech full-back Jankulovski and Italian centre-half Bonera.

Milan's defence has an average age of 32 and Mexes, at 26, has relative pace and a long-term future at the club.

Mexes joined Roma in a controversial move from Auxerre in the summer of 2004.

He initially left without the French club's permission and was banned until a fee of seven million euros was agreed.

Mexes is under contract with the Giallorossi until June 2011.

  1. Actually, Milan SHOULD make the exchange. Jankulovski isn't that good, while Bonera is definitely not as good as Mexes. Milan have Nesta, Zambrotta and Gattuso as a possible defender as defensive options, but with Mexes they will be even better.
