Fergie unimpressed by Wiley question

Wed, 21 Oct 17:38:07 2009

Sir Alex Ferguson refused to answer a question on the Alan Wiley situation at a press conference ahead of Wednesday night's Champions League Group B tie against CSKA Moscow.

The Manchester United manager faced the media for the first time since being charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for allegedly questioning Wiley's fitness.

When he was asked to comment on the charge, the Scot said: "Silly question gets no answer. I'm not answering it. We're at a press conference for a game on Wednesday. We're here to talk about that."

At that point Ferguson decided to end the press conference, which had already run for 22 minutes, and left the room.

Ferguson caused a media storm with his remarks about Wiley after his side's 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw against Sunderland on October 3.

United have travelled to Moscow without a number of key players in Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher, Patrice Evra and Park Ji-Sung.

Evra will be fit for Sunday's trip to Liverpool and Ferguson is also hopeful Rooney, Giggs and Fletcher will return.

Ferguson said: "Evra just had a little problem and we decided to leave him because we are quite well covered. I am hoping by Sunday Rooney, Fletcher and Giggs will be fit."

Rooney has been troubled by a calf injury since England's trip to Ukraine 11 days ago while Fletcher was also hurt on international duty.

Giggs and Evra suffered minor knocks in the draw against Bolton on Saturday. Park has a knee injury that is likely to sideline him for two weeks.

  1. BELEIVE ME RAFA IS 100 TIMES BETTER THAN ALEX .MU FANS WRITING HERE TO HELP THEM TO FORGET WHAT THEY SUFFERED SEVERELY IN THE HAND RAFA LAST MARCH. IT IS NIGHTMARE FOR THEM, EVEN MAYBE HUMILIATION. BUT THE WORSE IS COMING NOW. THIS WEEKEND, LIVERPOOL GOING TO SEND THEM PACKED WITH MINIMUM 3-0 AND AQUAILANI GOING 2 GOALS. THIS IS GUARANTEED

  2. alex ferguson took five years to win any trophy for MU, but then these idiots say nothing about him. Rafa already win 3 trophies within 5 years, CL/FA/super cup and these idiots says he is not good. IF by these measure alone, RAFA is 10 times better than alex ferguson.

  14. aengusdeburca........What worries me is you see a photograph of a baby who may well be the posters child and you immediately think of child abuse, hinting at the posters involvement . Are you aware that forming opinions with no basis in known facts is the start of bigotry. Is there anything in your own childhood or indeed adulthood (I use the term loosely) which triggers such thoughts. Grow up ,child abuse is no laughing matter.

  19. No ethics?! He was at the press conference for 22 minutes! Thats pretty good going for someone with no ethics. I love all the people who slate SAF all the time even though the vast majority of Premer League managers seem to respect and admire him. It's very rare that you hear a manager other than Rafa or Arsene actually talk badly about him and even then that is usually heat of the moment stuff. There is no denying he is the greatest manager that the Premier League has seen and he will be held in the highest esteem for many years to come.
