Zola welcomes squad competition

Gianfranco Zola believes competition for a place in the England World Cup squad can only help West Ham climb the Barclays Premier League table.

Goalkeeper Robert Green, centre-back Matthew Upson and striker Carlton Cole have all been involved with Fabio Capello's squad during the qualifying campaign.

"They know that Capello will be looking for them in the season and the way they perform for their clubs," Zola said on the club's official website, www.whufc.com.

""That is a very good point for me as they know they have to perform well if they want to be there.

"The competition they have in front is tough, but that is the good point about that.

"You have to be competitive in this world and have to be focused to do that.

"They know the reality is that and they are good boys and they will fight and play their best football."

  8. All it means is the England contenders will all be sold (as usual) before they jump ship or lose their value when we get relegated. TALK OF RELEGATION MIDWAY THROUGH OCTOBER????????? What is going on? Half the team that was looking quite promising has gone and the replacements, if you can call them that, are half asleep. I am sick of watching ex hammers getting the headlines each week for other teams.Wages for injured players has been huge and now theres whispers that Ashton won't play again so with the Savio farce we are not exactly getting value for money, and couple that with Collinson going to Villa for about half of what he's worth, oh yeah, and he scored there winner last week, we ARE in desperate trouble. Look at the games we have coming up. I know theres a hundred reasons that has had its impact, the Icelanders, the fines, the charges, but at the end of the day, the PLAYERS need to stand up for the club and the supporters that are paying their wages. The parties over Zola, sort em out or let someone who can, before were playing portsmouth in the championship next season.

  9. AS much as i love England and would love us to do well in the world cup, some competition in our own squad should be more of a concern. get us up that table zola, we dont want another season of fighting relegation.
