Ireland have announced the team to face Argentina on Saturday, which does not include the banned Alan Quinlan.
The Munster flanker (pictured, centre) has been suspended for three weeks after a disciplinary hearing upheld a citing for stamping in Saturday's 22-3 defeat by New Zealand.
Quinlan struck All Black number eight Rodney So'oialo in the first half, an incident spotted by referee Mark Lawrence who only issued a caution.
But the hearing held in Dublin last night deemed the offence was worthy of a red card.
Ireland's appeal against the decision will be heard on Friday with a place left open on the bench should it be successful.
The 34-year-old's physicality was deemed essential against New Zealand, but he must now wait until the RBS 6 Nations begins in February for his next opportunity in a green jersey.
Ulster's Stephen Ferris, a substitute at Croke Park last Saturday takes his place in the number six jersey.
Ferris was unfortunate to be relegated to the bench after starring in Ireland's autumn opener against Canada, a match won 55-0.
Full-back Geordan Murphy and hooker Jerry Flannery have also been recalled to the side.
Murphy comes in for Girvan Dempsey, who drops out of the 22, and Flannery replaces Rory Best.
The teams have had three major World Cup meetings in the past and Saturday's match could have a major bearing on the 2011 tournament because of the qualifying points at stake.
Argentina are desperately trying to hang on to their fourth place in the rankings while Ireland need to stay eighth to avoid dropping into the third tier of seeds for the December 1 draw.
Team:
15-Geordan Murphy, 14-Tommy Bowe, 13-Brian O'Driscoll (Captain), 12-Luke Fitzgerald, 11-Robert Kearney, 10-Ronan O'Gara, 9-Tomas O'Leary; 8-Jamie Heaslip, 7-David Wallace, 6-Stephen Ferris, 5-Paul O'Connell, 4-Donncha O'Callaghan, 3-John Hayes, 2-Jerry Flannery, 1-Marcus Horan.
Replacements: 16-Rory Best, 17-Tony Buckley, 18-Malcolm O'Kelly, 19-TBC, 20-Eoin Reddan, 21-Paddy Wallace, 22-Keith Earls.

quinny was right blacks player in wrong place
I saw the match. He wasn't trying to get the ball. It was a blatant series of stamps. He is actually a good, smart player but clearly not as athletic as the NZ backrow so his inability to compete with them led to frustration and STAMPING.
As far as I'm concerned, if you are on the wrong side in a ruck you deserve anything that happens to you! The IRB's clamp down on players ability to use their feet to clear out a ruck simply encourages opposition forwards to be cynical, slow down the game and spoil the match for all concerned.
achunkyjones - You Idiot! Rugby is a thugs sport played ny gentlemen, Soccer is a gentlemans sport played by thugs! It was harsh on Quinlan he had a right to ruck the player but he possible got the first step wrong which was a stamp. But in fairness nothing dirty about Quinlan. And that also goes for most other rugby players...Gentlemen and fine athletes!
Unfortunately there are a few neanderthals among the forwards.Northampton's @#$%, Dylan Hartley, is a prime example, having his 2nd ban in 2 seasons. Also,Borthwick's mate of many years was another ugly creature.I think that a life ban on a few of these morons would soon bring the others into line.Football is not exactly full of sweetness & light.Look at Roy Keane in his playing days. There have been plenty of deliberately dangerous & bone-breaking tackles in pro football. So I think the writer of this comment should adopt a more balanced approach.
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THUGBY!!!!!!!!!!!
FOOTBALL RULES THE WORLD
