Kilmarnock's Danny Invincibile has been taken aback by plummeting temperatures in Scotland but insists he would not swap it for Australia. The Brisbane-born midfielder has been in Scotland for more than four years and is still getting used to the winters in his adopted homeland.
Invincibile, 28, admits the recent freeze caught him off guard but insists he is looking forward to a busy festive season in the SPL, starting with a visit to St Mirren on Saturday.
He said: "I think I realised how cold it is over here when I was driving along the M8 on Thursday night and my car showed that it was minus four degrees outside.
"That had never happened to me before and it was a shock.
"It took me two hours to get from Glasgow to Edinburgh because of the ice and fog.
"It's a lot different back home.
"When I call back, they say, 'We are on the beach having a barbecue, what are you doing?'
"I say, 'I've got the central heating on full, and I've had to buy two other heaters because I'm freezing and I'm sitting in front of the fire'.
"But I wouldn't swap it, to be honest, I prefer a cold Christmas.
"In Australia, it gets too hot and you don't get the festive spirit.
He added: "It's a busy time for us but I like to be playing lots of games.
"It gives us the chance to pile the points up and get out of the slump.
"We haven't won in six games. Things haven't worked for us but hopefully they will soon.
"Scoring three but conceding three against Gretna last week was a little bit disappointing but at least it got us out of the rut and got us a point on the board."
Killie have been decimated by injuries in recent months and Invincibile pointed to third-placed Motherwell as an example of what can be achieved with consistency of selection.
He said: "The injuries we have suffered have been incredible.
"I've been here four years and we haven't had injuries this bad.
"We are hoping that we get over it because we haven't been able to keep the same team or keep the same fluency.
"You look at Motherwell, who have kept basically the same team and squad, and their consistency has shone through but we haven't been able to do that.
"They haven't got a lot of different players from last year.
"But the manager has come in and stuck to a system and style of play and that is huge thing in this league."
