Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield has signed a new three-year contract, adding to the feelgood factor sweeping Pittodrie. The 27-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal on Friday morning.
Langfield was in impressive form on Thursday night as the Dons reached the last 32 of the UEFA Cup with a 4-0 victory over Copenhagen.
The Dons have nine other key players out of contract at the end of the season, including Zander Diamond and Lee Miller, plus manager Jimmy Calderwood.
But Friday morning's UEFA Cup draw, which paired Aberdeen with old foes Bayern Munich, could help provide the financial security for others to follow Langfield's lead.
The new deal represents a remarkable turnaround for the former Dundee and Dunfermline goalkeeper, who looked to be on his way out of Pittodrie in the summer.
Calderwood stripped Langfield of the number one jersey after being angered by his "unprofessional" behaviour during a chance meeting on the goalkeeper's stag night.
But he brought him in from the cold for Aberdeen's first UEFA Cup game this season, a 0-0 draw with Dnipro on September 20.
And his performances have helped Aberdeen set up a clash with German giants Bayern, who they beat on their way to European Cup Winners' Cup success in 1983.
