Manchester United have secured a deal to sign Angolan international striker Manucho Goncalves from Petro de Luanda following a successful trial spell.

"He's quick, aggressive and there's something to work on there," said Ferguson.

United hope to obtain a work permit for the 24-year-old following the African Nations Cup at the start of next year, although Ferguson does not expect Goncalves to figure prominently in his first-team squad this season.

Ferguson had also been linked with a move to bring former Sweden international Henrik Larsson back to Old Trafford for a second spell when the January transfer window opens.

However, the United manager does not expect to repeat last season's loan deal for the 36-year-old.

"It would be an interesting one, but I don't think it's on," he said.

United midfielder Park Ji-sung is expected to end a nine-month injury absence at some point over the Christmas holiday schedule, Ferguson also said.

The South Korean international, 26, has recovered from a knee injury sustained in March and following successful surgery is back in full training with the Premier League champions.

"His training has been excellent in the last few weeks, well beyond what we expected," Ferguson continued. "When players have been out for nine months you are waiting for a slow recovery in some cases.

"But since he has come back in amongst the players he has been terrific so he will take part in the Christmas games. Which one depends on a lot of things, of course."

Park will not figure against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday but Ferguson hopes to have Carlos Tevez, Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown fit to play following minor injuries sustained in last weekend's win at Liverpool.
