Premier League - De Jong agrees City switch

Manchester City completed their third major January signing when Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong joined the Premier League's big spenders.
A statement on City's website said the 24-year-old international had signed a four-and-a-half year contract after they had agreed an undisclosed fee with Bundesliga club Hamburg.
De Jong, who has played 29 times for his country, joins England full-back Wayne Bridge - who arrived this month from Chelsea - and Wales striker Craig Bellamy from West Ham United.
City, owned by Abu Dhabi billionaire Sheikh Mansour bin Zayad al Nahyan, failed this week in an audacious bid to sign former World Player of the Year Kaka from Milan.
However, the club's executive chairman Garry Cook said there could be more signings before the window closes.
"We've got a couple of others that we're still working on and it's unfair to comment too deeply on those," Cook told the club's website.
"We had very clear plans going into (the transfer window). We're ticking the boxes as we say."
City lie 11th in the Premier League table but only four points above the teams in the relegation zone.

Those peasants from the borough of trafford in M/C are still watching citys progress in this transfer window, short memories you red noses , as i remember alan shearer didnt want to go anywhere near your old fashioned pit for love or money {anyone remember} .We dont need peoples sympathy to keep this club from progressing unlike you lot living off memories.Talking of memories remember Micheal knighton ha ha ha ha ha ha
Comment 55 is correct.... its obviously NON city fans who disagree!!...im sick to death of everyone slagging of City... change the f(((kin record!
comment # 43.... why not??...what have City ever done to you??...what a @#$% comment.
to comment 55. after spending such an amount of money and with their pre-season goal, they don't have to be somewhere near the relegation zone!!! they're 4pts clear from relegation and this new mish-mash signings won't help them.
Well said tommytoyou most sensible thing I have seen on here in a long time. aw
I'm hoping Mark H intentions are to keep our home grown , extremely talented lads to work along side new ones, we are a bit light , we do need to build the squad up as we are plagued by injuries , and throw in the suspensions .. we have no subs ! so we are desperate for players , However hope he can control Bellamy , otherwise no way we could get in Europe qualifications in the good behaviour league again!! yikes! Well done to Ireland this season, not seen anyone read a game like him in a long time ,great to have SWP home too! , be great to see Petrov back tho, if and when that happens!
tommytoyou, well said!
upinchoco99, be quiet! U know nothing!!!
great buy man city ....if we sell sturridge to b/burn the sale price is 40 million as he is worth that as we get 40 mill to stay in the prem lol....C.T.I.D.
good buy by man city we still expect more good buy and not kaka
my mate plays for the local pub team round here, he is a very good striker, fancy buying him? 70 million and he is all yours ;o)
Typical @#$% reporting saying Man City is in 11th place but only four points clear of relegation. Let's turn it around they're only six points shy of being in Europe. Hey ,and with the signings they are making to strengthen the squad, botht defensively and offensively, they are more likely to be in Europe than relagated. I'm not even a Man City supporter(I'm Chelsea true blue) . It just annoys me to no end when reporters emphasise news one way or the other, rather than giving a balanced / thorough view of things.
COMMENT 50, UTD MAKE THEIR OWN MONEY TO BUY PLAYERS NOT DIP INTO ANOTHER MANS FORTUNE, THATS THE DIFFERENCE
COMMENT 50, UTD MAKE THEIR OWN MONEY TO BUY PLAYERS NOT DIP INTO ANOTHER MANS FORTUNE, THATS THE DIFFERENCE
Hey we are selling shefqi kuqi, if you want him you can have him for 20 mill :o)
BIG MISTAKE MAN CITY... the biggest mistake they have made was to bid stupid money for kaka, this very over priced bid will now prompt other clubs to hold man city to ramsome and ask for stupid money every time city show interest in any player. You be lucky to sign any top player at a decent price now.
no.49, you hypocrite... united have bought their success consistently for the past few decades.
Shitteh Citeh........dream on. Can't buy history....can't buy success. United...United.
i agree with u dark.soul.. n its seems like dejavu... i remember this scenario happend around 5 yrs ago with chelsea under the tinkerman ranieri...
I think that mark hughes is not good in transfer of players. He don't no anything about it.Benjani, petrov,jo,Ben Haim, Hamman, Sturridge, Vassel, Ireland all this players are good but mark hughes seems not used them.Only he know is searching players with his big money,no he can't do like that.Buy players if needed not buy players you like it.I think benjani, petrov, ben haim, hamman, sturridge, vassel, ireland must find new club or you will sit down and relax on the bench.
Funny how United had the option of buying him at 1million pounds but didn't take it up and now City chalk up 17 times that amount to get him.
