Ten thousand fans saw one world leading mark, two meet records, one world junior best and three wins for home stars at the GE Galan IAAF indoor meet in Stockholm.
Sudanese junior Abubaker Kaki got the evening off to a great start and confirmed his vast potential with the sixth-fastest 1000m time ever, 2:15.77, a world indoor junior best and new national record. Richard Kiplagat of Kenya came home second in 2:16.96.
Susanna Kallur remained unbeaten this year in the women's 60m hurdles, winning in 7.74, a new meeting record. Spain's Josephine Onyia was second in 7.91 and three other runners went sub-eight seconds.
Latvian Dmitrijs Milkevics improved his PB to 1:46.09 in the men's 800m B race, the third fastest time of the year, with the favourites slower in the main A race, Wilfred Bungei finally beating Yuriy Borzakovskiy after two losses earlier in the season in Moscow and Stuttgart.
Bernard Lagat finished unbeaten his short indoor season with his second-fastest career time at 3000m, his 7:34.65 beating Paul Kipsiele Koech (7:36.24) and Abraham Chebii 7:38.63.
Meanwhile, home favourite Johan Wissman beat a strong field in the men's 400m with 46.30, coming home ahead of Osaka finalist Chris Brown of the Bahamas (46.31) and Tyler Christopher of Canada (46.75).
In the field events, Stefan Holm beat a strong field including medalists from Moscow 2006 and Osaka 2007. Holm, the last high jumper to clear 2.40m (2005 European Championships in Madrid), cleared 2.33m in first attempt before failing on 2.37m.
World champion Carolina Kluft pulled out of the hurdles and long jump in the warm-up, citing a thigh injury which could mean the end of the indoor season.
Kluft, scheduled to have an MRI on Friday, will miss this weekend's Swedish Indoor Championships in Malmö, with her world title defence in Valencia also under threat.
The capacity crowd of 10,641 was the largest ever assembled for a competition in Sweden.
