Bayern Munich progressed to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup with a 7-3 aggregate victory over Aberdeen after a comprehensive 5-1 win at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern took the lead via an early Lucio free-kick and extended their advantage before half-time through a header from Daniel van Buyten.
The visitors produced a flurry of resistance in the opening stages of the second half, before Lukas Podolski's brace put paid to their European campaign.
Substitute Steve Lovell headed past Oliver Kahn with five minutes remaining to claim a consolation for the visitors, before Mark van Bommel restored his side's four-goal lead with a beautifully struck effort from the cusp of the penalty area.
Bayern began the game strongly at a raucous Allianz Arena and almost took the lead after two minutes when Luca Toni chested Lucio's cross into the path of Podolski and the German international thumped a sweetly struck left-footed volley against the crossbar from just inside the area.
But within ten minutes Bayern were in front, when Brazilian centre-half Lucio thumped a free-kick past Jamie Langfield from 22 yards after Alan Maybury had brought down Toni Kroos as he advanced on goal.
The home side looked comfortably in the ascendancy, but after 24 minutes Darren Mackie spurned a golden opportunity to bring his side level when he sprinted away from the Bayern defence before sending a low shot just wide of the far post.
And the Dons were made to pay for that miss 10 minutes before half-time when van Buyten powered a header past Langfield from Kroos's inswinging left-wing free-kick.
The German league leaders nearly extended their lead on the stroke of half-time, but after Langfield palmed away Andreas Ottl's shot, Lucio's follow-up effort from a difficult angle struck the post.
Aberdeen began the second period in much more enterprising fashion, and after 10 minutes they had the ball in the Bayern net, only to be denied by the linesman's flag.
Sone Aluko's cross from the left was touched home at the back post by Mackie, but Lee Miller had strayed into an offside position when the ball was played.
The home side made sure of victory when Podolski tapped home after Langfield could only parry Miroslav Klose's effort, and Podolski extended Bayern's lead shortly after with a header from substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger's right-wing corner.
Lovell's header from Jeffrey de Visscher's free-kick gave the away fans something to cheer, before van Bommel's fine strike into the bottom-left corner capped a comfortable evening for Ottmar Hitzfeld's men.
