Injured Azarenka out of Dubai

Wed, 22 Feb 12:59:00 2012

World number one Victoria Azarenka has pulled out of the WTA Dubai tournament through injury.

Azarenka - 0

The Belarusian, 22, aggravated an ankle injury picked up the week before in Qatar, where she won the WTA Doha title.

"Obviously it's very disappointing, but, I mean, it's life. It's sport. I just have to take care of it and that's it," Azarenka - who is unbeaten this year - said.

"I'll take a couple of days off just to see and hopefully it will settle down so I don't need to take a scan or anything.

"But I just need to have my peace of mind and probably will still do the same just to make sure there is nothing really serious. But it has to be taken care of right away.

"Last week (in Doha) it (the ankle) was already hurt in the semi-final, and in the final I tried to do everything, you know, to be able to play.

"I took a lot of sacrifice by taking a lot of painkillers, but apparently didn't get better.

"I had to adjust my movement, compromise in the other parts of my body which started to hurt, and it's just too much of a risk."

She is the fifth big name to pull out of Dubai, following China’s Li Na, Russia’s Vera Zvonareva, Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova and Czech third seed Petra Kvitova.

Azarenka is expected to return for the US season starting at Indian Wells on March 7.

Third seed Caroline Wozniacki encountered few problems as she cruised past Simona Halep of Romania in straight sets, 6-2 6-3 in her second-round match. The Dane will next take on Ana Ivanovic in the quarter-finals, with the Serb having beaten Maria Kirilenko 6-2 7-6.

Samantha Stosur was also in action, and the fourth seed battled hard to overcome Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-1 6-7(5) 6-1 to set up a clash with Jelena Jankovic, with the eighth seed having beaten Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-4 6-2.

Fifth seed Agnieszka Radwanska defeated wildcard Shahar Peer 7-5 6-4 with a consummate display, and the Pole will next face Sabine Lisicki - the ninth seed - after the German swept past Iveta Benesova 6-3 6-3.

Julia Goerges of Germany will take on Daniela Hantuchova in the quarter-finals after she beat Casey Dellacqua 6-0 6-2. Hantuchova disposed of Peng Shuai 7-5 6-2.

    Yeah right!
Still trying to take credit for other people's thoughts hey?

Since you do agree with MY post 11, then you have admitted that it wasn't written by you and neither was MY post on the Simon Reed article.
There is no way you could post a comment like that, you don't have the knowledge or the mentality.
The best you can do is clone others and you don't do that very well either.
You are a STUPID FAKE at that and very Immature!
So PI$$ off and write your own stuff.
    You are so transparent!
Even with MY picture and copying my comments ie: "FAKE OFF", you still can't pass yourself off as ME.

    Keep playing the FOOL.

  6. juliusil,
As an englishman who loves sport I too am appalled at the lack of commentaters to pronounce name properly,I just hate the sound of sharapova instead of sha rapova with the emphisis, on the ra of the second part of the name
But they don't care thats the trouble

  7. I am angered at stupidity of Eurosport English commentators... Don't they know, for instance, how the surname Hercog is pronounced? And why don't they pay attention that Wizniacki doesn't need to write their name to please an English eye (or ear). The Polish history of all was so often throught the history interspersed with the English, one would expect to learn once and for all how the combinations like "ck" are being pronounced in OTHER than English languages...

After all, please agree: one has got a right to hear one's name pronounced correctly.

I can explain it only by imperial habits by which the Brits expect the world to serve them. There were times, but, history has changed since long ago. A bit of consideration towards the others could help here. (Hope the Eurosport commentators will read that!)

Hahahaha the immediate references and comments about Simon Reids article published last night made me laugh! It's almost as though he has a magic wand, and he tells us he thinks someone is about to do well, but he's lying and he waves the wand and BAM down the toilet, goes another players career for a while!

If she has an injury(the real one)how she could play against Sam in the finals(last week Qatar ) ???

If Maria did have an injury (last year Japan ) vs Kvitova she stopped playing right away (because of pain)
she couldn't play for a while...
I know what I am talking about I couldn't play about 6-7 weeks (after similar ankle injury) it's just just impossible to play tennis ,but only if...
(if injury is real), otherwise shut the f..k up and play...

  14. Every injury should be taken seriously and treated properly, so that's a no-brainer. On the other hand; we'll not have to suffer the shrieking/grunting torments we've grown accustomed to this week at least, so that's a bonus. I'll go for Sam then to win this, or maybe gorgeus Goerges! Or some other NO-grunter!

From HsSimon, on Wed 22 Feb 22:52
  15. She did well, there is no need to risk agravating the injury, and I think she will be fully fit for Indian Wells. She is still not beaten this year.
