Di Canio grateful for luck

Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio admits his side were very lucky to beat Shrewsbury 2-1 at the County Ground.

After Matthew Richards gave the visitors a first-half lead, substitute Alan Connell bagged a brace to send the Robins soaring to the top of npower League Two.

"We are lucky. For the first 55 minutes Shrewsbury deserved to be in front. Maybe they should have had a penalty in the second half but we then went on to dominate the game," Di Canio told the club's official website.

"It's the first time in a while that we have had some luck and the win makes me very happy. Before the game I saw some of my players white in the face, they looked shy."

Despite heading the table, Di Canio has warned his side there is still a long way to go.

He added: "We have thought about this for seven months. Now we must not lose our focus. If we play like we played for the last half an hour against Shrewsbury then we will win most games."

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner was fuming after referee Brendan Malone failed to award his side what he felt was a blatant penalty when they were winning 1-0.

Terry Gornell was brought down by Alan McCormack with the Shrews well in control, and Turner said: "We couldn't believe that decision.

"Even the defender said he was ready to walk. Everybody in the ground thought it was a penalty and a sending off and no one can quite understand how that decision wasn't given.

"That decision was the big one in the game and arguably the only one in the game and he bottled it."
