Job losses at Pompey

Wed, 22 Feb 18:45:45 2012

Cash-strapped Portsmouth have been forced to make "a number of redundancies" to help aid their battle for financial survival.

The identities of those made redundant has not been divulged, with no-one at the npower Championship club available to comment on speculation chief executive David Lampitt is one of those affected.

Pompey's players and staff have not been paid since December and the cost-cutting measures also involve this continuing for some at the club, most likely high earners, on an "ongoing basis", while a host of full-time staff are also being asked to go part-time.

The moves come after Portsmouth entered administration for a second time in two years last Friday, resulting in an immediate 10-point deduction which has subsequently plunged the south-coast outfit into the Championship's bottom three.

In a statement on the club's official website, joint administrator Trevor Birch revealed the financial meltdown at Fratton Park "is more serious than many people had expected" and added the club could run of of money within the next couple of months.

Birch said: "We have had no choice but to take the difficult decision to make a number of redundancies across all levels and departments within Portsmouth Football Club. Additionally, we are asking certain employees to defer wages on an ongoing basis and are asking several members of staff to move from a full-time to a part-time role."

  3. The blame is on the Pompey executves and the FA ,had to approve the owners as fit and proper people ,now the
players and middle staff have got to pay the price as well as the supporters for their short comings So come on FA
and admit making your decision in deducting the club 10points was your error and give the 10points back to a
    wonderful club and apologise

  4. The owners at Pompey have a lot to answer for. It shouldn't have happened again. Out of everyone, it's the fans i feel sorry for the most. THEY don't deserve it. Hope you stay up Pompey and in business. I support Birmingham City so having had it happen in the past i know how it feels. We've just signed one of your players on loan, what's he like??

  5. agian the owners of pompey have let the club down ,,we have had nothing but crooked owners and all have milked the club and then just get up and go leaving the club yet again in debt ,,and yes some players our on big money our really not better than an average local club player ,who would at least fight in every game ,,look at kitson the worst player since nugent and a high earner ,,i rather see young boys play who earn a small amount even if we get relegated than watch some of these high paid players going through the motions ,,we been a club thats always had bad owners ,,it would be great just to have a honest person in charge ,,and even if we played our way back from the 2nd div we will still have the fans behind pompey ,,these crooks should be brought to justice ,,but again that wont happen cos the crooks always look after each other in the football game ie the FA and perks going into there pockets ,,football has become a game of cheats and crooks ,,and the great fan suffers pup

  6. Even though I don't support Portsmouth, they have been well unlucky with what has gone on in recent years and I hope that someone comes in and bails them out. They don't deserve what has gone on.

  8. shame on you chanrai and board. utter disgrace to english football, overated players on overated wages, innocent employees being kicked out of work, how the hell do you sleep at night, ruining real workers lives, you should hang your heads in shame. the workers and fans are the backbone of this club, you,ve had the support and backing home and away, and let everybody down. the so called star on £30,000.00 a week should donate his wages to keep these poor sods in work., you,re an absolute disgrace as an employer and it makes me ashamed as a true pompey fan. clear off back to your own countries and let the fans have their club back, your a load of freeloaders who make money off true fans, and then try to dodge your debts. do the honourable thing, sell the club for a quid to a u.k. citizen who,s heart is with the club, we don,t want your millions, we want a club with honour, like we used to have, before mandaric, sascha, rednapp and their cronies, we,d do better with gosport borough players, at least they have pride

  9. With their history and potential, surely someone with a serious amount of money would want to buy Pompey. I hope this will be the case and hope this happens soon. Best of luck Portsmouth I would be sad to see the demise of my teams main rival !
