Rangers fans launch website for investment offers

Wed, 22 Feb 18:27:45 2012

The three main Rangers supporters organisations have joined forces to launch a website where fans can pledge how much money they would be willing to invest in the crisis-hit club.

The Rangers Supporters Association, the Rangers Supporters Assembly and the Rangers Supporters Trust want to know how much cash could be raised if an opportunity for "meaningful fan ownership" occurs in the future.

The Scottish champions were forced into administration last Tuesday over an unpaid tax bill of £9million accrued since Craig Whyte's takeover last May.

The administrators and Whyte himself yesterday confirmed that a £24million cash injection from investment firm Ticketus, based on advance season ticket sales, had been used to pay off £18million debt owed to Lloyds Banking Group at the time of the takeover.

A statement from the Rangers Supporters Trust read: "Thousands of Rangers fans have been asking what they can do to help save Rangers Football Club.

"The three main supporter organisations are launching www.SaveRangers.com which gives fans the opportunity to pledge their own money to invest and save Rangers Football Club."

What would anyone putting money into the club get in return? Or is it just a goodwill payment? If I was to give $5,000 for example, would I have a seat at Ibrox to take if I so wished? Unlikely I would ever use it, I'm an Aberdeen fan, but if it mean't one less OF fan at a Scottish football game then it could only be for the good. I tried to get them to introduce double priced tickets at Pittodrie once. Anyone who buys one is also guaranteed there will be an empty seat in the away end.
