Chairman Ken Bates is confident Neil Warnock can fulfil his ambitions at Leeds.
Warnock, sacked by Barclays Premier League side QPR in January, took over the hotseat at Elland Road on Saturday following the sacking of Simon Grayson.
And Bates has revealed Warnock, who is in charge until the end of the season, is determined to win promotion and resume unfinished business in the top flight.
"Neil was on his way to Wolverhampton to be interviewed when I spoke to him and he was on the plane the next morning with Shaun and we met in Monaco," he told Yorkshire Radio.
"We had a long session and Neil wasn't particularly motivated by money. He has an ambition in that he has won promotion seven times and he wants to be one of the few managers to make it eight.
"In the way the game is going it will be difficult to do that. His ambition is to take Leeds into the Premier League."

ive followed leeds for decades, warnock was not my first choice but its not me in charge,i think we should get behind him to see if he can stop us leaking goals first, and worry about promotion second........M.O.T
Hi joncrawley most leeds fans know bates is a moron,we are well past thinking it.
(CONDENSED VERSION OF KEN BATES STATEMENT) Neil wasn,t particuarly motivated by money. I hired him strait away.
I don't doubt that KB wants us in the Premiership- more fans, higher ticket prices, revenue etc etc (oh and a parachute payment when we go straight back down if no real investment made). The issue it appears is about timing, not sure if this is urban myth or not, but there appears to be a clause in our previous liquidation agreement, that is we get back to Premiership before 2013 then 20p in the pound on previous debt is payable. If this is true then there is no way KB wants us there to have that liability realised. Also the lack of spending to ensure the club goes up is more understandable (still don't like it tho').
Strikes me more and more there are some elaborate games going on behind the scenes. The constant talk of KB not wanting Leeds to be in a spiralling debt position does not wash, our books are better than they have been in decades, as a corporate entity we can well afford more debt (to realise ambitions). There is a massive difference between investment and spending.
Leeds as a premier league outfit will raise KB`s stock, so to say he does not want this is ridiculous.
He has an 18 months contract, the report by "Yahoo" is incorrect. I don't see the comment attributed to Bates so lying is a little strong.....
I thought Warnock was contracted till end of next season not this season or is that a lie too
Who is Bates kidding? He doesn't want to spend any money yet trots out the same old rubbish about ambition and the nee d to get Leeds back in the Premiership. We won't get there without investment so if you can't figure that out Bates you're an even bigger moron than most Leeds fans think you are.
