Grimsby stole all three points against struggling Mansfield at Field Mill, thanks to Danny Boshell's 74th-minute winner in a 2-1 victory. It was The Stags' 11th home game without a win - 10 of them defeats - since Boxing Day and left them deeper in the relegation mire.
Despite the strong wind, both sides played some neat football and the first half was an end to end affair. In an explosive first four minutes, Nathan Arnold fired just wide for Mansfield and Mickey Boulding shot straight at goalkeeper Phil Barnes, while home shot-stopper Jason White saved well from a Paul Bolland blast.
But Grimsby swept ahead in the 32nd minute when Peter Till fired through a crowd of players and inside the far post. Alex John-Baptiste should have levelled five minutes later but sent a header over the crossbar from five yards. However, the home side were level four minutes after the break after a great turn and finish by Arnold.
The visitors' goal then led a charmed life for a short time as Barnes saved well from Arnold and Matt Hamshaw, while Boshell made two goal-line clearances to deny Johnny Mullins in an amazing scramble.
Hero Boshell then grabbed the winner with a great 20-yard effort into the top corner after taking a pass from Till to maintain the Mariners' great away record of only one defeat in 13 and stay in the play-off hunt.
