Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood praised his side after they picked up their first win in five games with a 2-1 victory at Northampton. But Forest did it the hard way, playing for most of the match with 10 men after James Perch was dismissed in the first half.
They won it with a second-half penalty from Nathan Tyson after Poul Hubertz had cancelled out Brett Ormerod's opener for the visitors.
Calderwood, who was up against his former club, said: "It's a big win for us against a team that has been in great form recently.
"It's a huge result, and a deserved win, especially in the manner it came. The sending off of James Perch was a very contentious one, I thought it was just a 50/50 tackle.
"I didn't think the referee had a great night but we've been really tested by Northampton, who mauled Swansea last week. It's a big step forward for us but we need to go do it again on Monday (against Brighton)."
