Every point is vital, says Murphy

David Murphy admits 'every point matters' between now and the end of the season - but feels survival is in Birmingham's hands.Blues face Reading on Saturday and Murphy admitted: "You do notice the results of other teams around you, especially at this stage of the season when every point really matters.

"It's still in our own hands. We have just got to take care of the situation ourselves and then hopefully at the end of the remaining eight games we will have enough points to stay up.

"There's not many points between the bottom teams. I think it is so close right up to 12th and 13th place. If you get a couple of wins under your belt, it takes you right up there."

In an age where footballers are portrayed as being over-paid and out of touch with supporters, Murphy showed the other side of the game by donating his signing on fee at Birmingham to Hibs.

He said: "I actually gave my signing on fee to Hibs for their academy to help develop more youngsters up there. The club was fantastic for me so I was more than happy for them to have it.

"I felt it was a fitting way to say thank you to the club for everything they had done for me. I just felt it was the right thing to do."
