Dons Held In Front Of Record Crowd

Sat 22 Mar, 12:28 AM

Veteran striker Kevin Gallen missed a glorious last-gasp chance to move the MK Dons clear at the top as Peterborough held on for a 1-1 draw in front of a record crowd at stadium:mk.

The former QPR striker somehow blazed wide in the dying seconds with the goal at his mercy to disappoint the majority of the 14,528-strong crowd.

The Dons made a dream start when Jemal Johnson burst down the left in the 12th minute and squared for Colin Cameron, who helped the ball on for Aaron Wilbraham to fire home from eight yards.

But Posh responded well and were level in the 27th minute. Dean Keates was given far too much space and crossed for Chris Whelpdale to nip in front of Mark Wright and head past Willy Gueret.

It was all Dons in the second half with Lloyd Dyer and Wilbraham fluffing great chances.

But the best chance of the night arrived in stoppage time when Gallen hopelessly miscued after good work from Wilbraham.

Stockport cruised to their sixth straight victory as they beat struggling Cheshire neighbours Macclesfield 2-0 thanks to Jason Taylor's brace.

The home side had the better of an entertaining first half at Edgeley Park in front of a bumper 7,824 crowd and almost went in front after just four minutes when Liam Dickinson shot just wide from 15 yards.

But the hosts went in front after 10 minutes when Gary Dicker saw a shot blocked by Sean Hessey, but the loose ball was rammed home by Taylor.

Dickinson again shot narrowly wide, before Macclesfield hit back when Martin Gritton headed an effort straight at Stockport 'keeper John Ruddy.

Tommy Rowe fired just over for Stockport just before half-time.

The hosts went two up seconds after the restart when Dickinson's cross was spilled by Jonny Brain, and Taylor was on hand to smash home his second of the night.
