Bordeaux's title ambitions suffered a setback when Ligue 1's second-placed team lost 3-1 at Valenciennes.
Bordeaux's defeat left them on 55 points from 30 games. Leaders Olympique Lyon, chasing a seventh successive title, can move nine points clear with a home win over strugglers Paris St Germain on Sunday.
Midfielder Sebastien Roudet raced into the box and struck from a tight angle to put Valenciennes in front on 10 minutes.
The visitors equalised three minutes later with a superb free kick from 25 metres by Brazilian midfielder Wendel.
Slovakian Filip Sebo put the home side back in front from close range on 63 and fellow forward Steve Savidan wrapped it up for Valenciennes with an acrobatic volley in the 77th.
Surprise packages Nancy held on to third position with a 2-1 home win over bottom club Metz thanks to a late header from Morocco forward Moncef Zerka.
Nancy are nine points off the pace and three points behind Bordeaux.
Fourth-placed Olympique Marseille did their chances of reaching the Champions League no good by losing 1-0 at home to Sochaux, Senegal defender Guirane N'daw scoring with an astute lob after two minutes.
Marseille are six points off third spot and the ticket to the Champions League qualifying round it offers.
