Newcastle United 2-0 Fulham

Kevin Keegan: "People keep questioning all sorts of things with these great players, but they can answer them. Michael probably answered a few critics again today - there are plenty out there, from what I am seeing. He would certainly be in most people's England side."

Roy Hodgson: "We have got seven games to play. But it was a big move for Sunderland with their excellent win at Aston Villa, so we have lost touch with them. But having said that, seven matches, a lot of things can happen. We've got to keep believing that our football can get us out trouble and hope things start going right."

Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Portsmouth

Gus Poyet: "Darren Bent opened Portsmouth up when he came on. He would like to be starting games and scoring goals but he made a big impact and that shows the importance of substitutes. It was a difficult game and we had to be patient, concentrate and know that sooner or later we would get our chance."

Harry Redknapp: "For 80 minutes we were right in there and I felt we'd taken the best that Tottenham could throw at us. I was thinking it was going to be a great point for us after making six enforced changes. Tottenham is not an easy place to go to after making changes like that, and I thought we were fantastic. The lads who came in did a good job and worked hard."

Reading 2-1 Birmingham

Steve Coppell: "The goals were very welcome. The second one came at a stage when we hadn't quite lost our way but they had changed their shape. We're not very good at holding on, so our mentality must be to score more goals. Bikey's second was a delight. At one stage I thought we would be punished for not taking our chances."

Alex McLeish: "I don't really like doing the points thing. I did that for the Scotland campaign - and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said 24 points would be enough to qualify for Euro 2008. But it was not. It's important we pick up some wins because it's becoming so tight. But need to keep everyone fit and stop shipping goals."

Blackburn Rovers 3-1 Wigan Athletic

Mark Hughes: "I thought we were excellent, a lot of big performances today. It was really important we won and I said beforehand the players had to understand the significance of the game and as a consequence we got a really good performance."

Steve Bruce: "For the standards we have set both individually and collectively we never got started. Everything went against us. We got a lifeline with the penalty, sticking that away, and I expected us to kick on, but we didn't."

Middlesbrough 1-0 Derby County

Gareth Southgate: "We only got the one goal and then in the last 25 minutes of the game we subconsciously decided to sit on our lead. We had a couple of chances to finish the game off but they kept plugging away and only being one goal ahead gave them the chance to get back into it. We didn't really play in the second half. Had we got a second goal I think we would have ended up winning quite comfortably but we held on and it was an important win because we have some difficult games to come."

Paul Jewell: "In the first half we were rubbish but in the second half we passed the ball well. We controlled the last 25 minutes and could have snatched a point. We had two great chances and I think they were glad to hear the final whistle. We didn't start the game well and didn't play the conditions. Rob Earnshaw should have done better with the chance he had but I'll never have a go at a player for missing chances. Hossam Ghaly ran the game when he came on. He was terrific and showed what a good player he is."

Bolton Wanderers 0-0 Manchester City

Gary Megson: "We have drawn a game we maybe should have won but not through a lack of effort. We gave their goalkeeper a lot to do and we certainly could not have tried any harder. We had a lot of efforts on goal so there is a lot to be positive about but at this stage of the season it is all about getting the three points."

Sven-Goran Erikkson: "Bolton are fighting for their lives. You have to cope with the way they play and defensively we did okay. Richard Dunne was extremely important to us in dealing with the amount of long balls and crosses they put in. We dealt with them well but we hit too many long balls ourselves and in the future we have to play more football."

Aston Villa 0-1 Sunderland

Martin O'Neill: "We failed to take any chances that came our way but you can't just point the finger at that. Our overall play was disappointing and it is my responsibility. Since we drew with Arsenal a fortnight ago we have been really disappointing. You would not expect us to collect only one point from our last two home games. I have to rectify it."

Roy Keane: "We have been unlucky in some away games - it is not as though we have been battered every week. We have played quite well without getting over the finishing line but here we achieved it. We played some decent stuff. Maybe we rode our luck a little bit but we got one clear-cut chance in the second half and managed to take it."

Everton 1-1 West Ham

David Moyes: "I am disappointed we didn't take all three points. We played okay in the first half, and I thought the second goal should have. I am really enjoying being in fifth, because the boys have done so well being there. We'll gather our thoughts over the weekend, get the players back and start thinking about it [the derby]."

Alan Curbishley: "We had a dreadful start which has been a pattern of the recent games. But (Tomkins) got better and stronger as did the team and so we are sitting here a little bit disappointed. We had some decent chances. James started well, he tried to win the header and I think Yakubu rolled him. But he had an excellent game. Freddie (Sears) was very lively and we could have got a couple of goals. Going one nil down after eight minutes you expect the worst. The second half we began to pass it a lot more and got forward but didn't get the winner."
