Frankfurt are in 14th place three points off the relegation play-off after snatching only their first win since the winter break over St Pauli last week.

"I am very disappointed. I thought we could also win against VfL Wolfsburg," Skibbe told Bild.

Daum, whose last coaching job was at Fenerbahce in Turkey after leaving Cologne in 2009, will lead his first training session on Wednesday.

It is the latest in a series of coaching changes in the Bundesliga.

Felix Magath returned to his former club Wolfsburg on Friday only two days after an acrimonious split with Schalke.

Armin Veh said he would leave Hamburg at the end of the season, but was then fired anyway the day after a 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich coach Louis Van Gaal recently decided to part company at the end of the season, one year before his contract expires.

And Bayer Leverkusen coach Jupp Heynckes last week announced he would quit at the end of the season with his team second in the Bundesliga and mounting a challenge for the title.
