Davydenko sets up Isner clash
Former champion Davydenko broke serve a total of five times as he needed just less than two hours to beat Blake.
Next up for the Russian will be a tough clash against Isner, who was runner-up to Roger Federer at last week’s Indian Wells Masters.
Tommy Haas also progressed to the second round, beating French qualifier Guillaume Rufin 6-4 6-4 for just his fourth win of the season.
Veteran Haas eased past Rufin in one hour and 35 minutes to set up a second round clash with 25th seed Radek Stepanek.
The 33-year-old Haas was joined in the second round by another veteran Arnaud Clement, one year the German’s senior.
Clement required just 96 minutes to beat Israel’s Dudi Sela 6-3 6-3.
There were also straight sets wins for Frederico Gil, who beat Thomaz Bellucci 6-3 6-4, and Grigor Dimitrov, who dismissed Mikhail Kukushkin 6-2 6-2.
