Police have announced that they are to investigate a robbery that occurred during Southampton's home game with Burnley at the weekend.

Several players from both sides were the victims of theft during Saturday's 1-0 victory for the Clarets at St Mary's.

Police were called to the ground shortly after the end of the match, with five home and nine away players having cash stolen from their belongings in the changing rooms.

A Southampton spokesman said: "We can confirm that there was an incident which we are investigating but we cannot comment further until we have more details."

Officials from the club, along with stewards and members of the security staff, were helping police with their investigation.

The thefts are thought to have taken place sometime during the second half.
