Southampton have announced that they will hold an extraordinary general meeting on May 16 to resolve the boardroom struggle at the club.

Former chairmen Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde have called for most of the current board, including current chairman Leon Crouch, to resign so that they can return to the club.

Lowe and Wilde, who own 46% of shares in Southampton, could take charge of the club once again if the EGM at St Mary's rules in their favour.

A club statement said: "Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC today announces that an extraordinary general meeting has been convened for Friday, May 16 2008 at 11.30am for the purposes of considering resolutions to remove each of Leon Adrian Crouch, Charles Leo Hoos, Patrick Murray Trant and Keith St John Wiseman as directors of the Company and to appoint each of Andrew Edward Cowen, Rupert James Graham Lowe and Michael Gordon Wilde as directors of the Company."

The Saints are currently 21st in the Championship, one point and one place above the relegation zone with two games remaining.

On Monday they face a tough trip to league leaders West Brom, before welcoming Sheffield United to St Mary's on the final day of the season.
