Premier League - Parker wins Football Writers' honour
Fri, 22 Apr 07:32:00 2011
West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker has been voted the Footballer of the Year for 2011 by the Football Writers' Association.
The 30-year-old has stood out in a season during which his club have struggled against relegation. The Hammers currently sit 19th in the Premier League.
"Scott Parker has been so consistent this season with his performances in a West Ham team battling for Barclays Premier League survival and as such has forced himself back into the England national set-up," FWA chairman Steve Bates said.
"He has been an inspirational figure for the Irons and hopefully his professionalism will be rewarded with West Ham staying up at the end of the season.
"In what was one of the tightest votes of recent seasons, Scott is certainly a worthy winner and follows in the footsteps of a long line of superb footballers who have been given this prestigious honour."
The Professional Football Association voted Tottenham's Gareth Bale as their player of the season on Sunday, but he came second in the Football Writers' poll.

Parker hahaha Jesus. Unstable is the word for Scott Parker yes he runs about a lot makes many good challenges and can read the game well but that’s like saying a CF can finish well its part of the position. In terms of Defensive midfielder he is average and commits many stupid errors which to be a great DMF you can‘t do this is very similar to Barry and Palacios.
Personally I think Nani should get this he’s played well this season Fill the gap C.Ronaldo left
what a load of trollocks, im a whu fan, good team player but no way the best in the prem this season ! fackin sympathy votes again. yet again a bunch of freeloading journeymen has beens or never will be's only interested in bleeding clubs for ridiculous wages. HOW THE BLOODY HELL CAN YOU REWARD ANY MEMBER OF A SOON TO BE RELEGATED TEAM???????????????? watch the cockroaches who kiss our badge chuck in the transfer requests the second we cant stay up !
well done scottie parker fully deserved only player apart from bale to stand out this season overall been a bad season for all the top players
Well deserved. An inspirational footballer & an icon of the game. The kids should be looking up to the likes of Scottie Parker rather than chav miester Rooney & the like. Scott Parker is just a great player without all the razzmataz & @#$% that goes along with the the 'star' players these days.
Parker is a good player...but come on he is not that good...Giggs half the Man U ,Chelsea, and Man CITY players stood out more...Well done Parker but you have so many players in front of you....
he defintely deserved it. hes a brilliant midfielder, he scores vital goals and is a good leader and also i met him a couple of days ago hes a really nice man.
Great fella scott parker, excellent attitude and always gives 110% complete work horse with no ego.
Good choice!
@88- Are you joking? if so :) but if not your sooooooooooooooooo dumb
pfffft
No way should`ve been messi but well done scott
Goodness! This is another display of shallowness and celebration of mediocrity by the English. How on earth will you rate Scot over Tevez, Nasri, Wilshere, Nani, Vidic, etc. I'm beginning to be irritated.
No way should`ve been messi but well done scott
I am not a West Ham fan but have watched them a few times this year. If half the Arsenal team (that I do follow) played with the heart, intensity and passion that Scott Parker does we would have the League, Cup and European Championship sewn up. Well done Scottie, I can't think of a more deserving winner and I hope you can cheat the drop.
Nice one Scott.
As a die hard West Ham United fan, I'm so pleased to see that this award has gone to a WHU player.
should've been torres
The most uncapped international player we have, just like Jimmy Greenof; remember him ?Top man !
When i read the headline i thought Paul Parker was after getting an award for his 'journalism'! much happier to see it's Scott Parker.. I wonder when the last time the award was given to a player whose a team who might be relegated?
In reality, Scotty merits the award. He is a hard working midfielder who is active defensively and offensively. Furthermore, he is good passer of the ball and has good vision of the game. His problem is that he doesn't benefit from media largesse. He gets almost no media publicity because he plays for West Ham. Honestly in this era of football when midfielders are expected to be technical, i place him above both Gerrard and Lampard. The former is a worker but not skillful .
man utd fan - i hope wigan and blackburn stay in the league 12 easy points for us
just a bit concerned bot ideologies of current ball game, not interesting at all!who kicked the gong this season better than Nani!?
