Prutton out to retain focus

Thu 22 May, 07:00 PM

David Prutton has urged his Leeds team-mates not to fold under the weight of expectation in Sunday's play-off final.Leeds were soundly beaten in their last two major finals, losing 3-0 to Aston Villa at Wembley in the League Cup final in 1996 and by the same scoreline to Watford in the Championship play-off final at the Millennium Stadium 10 years later.

Prutton said: "Big things are expected of the team, of the club and of the fans and the main thing is retaining focus, making sure we turn up on the day and do as much as we can.

"Don't leave anything in the dressing room, make sure every ounce of energy, enthusiasm and hard work is left on the pitch.

"Obviously you can't get away from the fact it's Wembley and what it's about, but I think it was Dean Windass who said it's important to play the game and not the occasion, which is a sensible thing to say.

"There will be a lot of stuff going on around us, but the only reason we're there is because of the way we played last Thursday and the only reason it will mean anything to us is if we win on Sunday."
