Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins is thought to have targeted Swansea defender Steven Watt as a replacement for Andy Butler.

Butler, 24, is currently out-of-contract and Adkins revealed he is already on the lookout for potential candidates to fill the void he would leave should he choose to end his association with the club.

Watt, 23, is currently on loan at Inverness but has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons, having twice had surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

"Keeping Andy Butler here at Glanford Park remains our number one target, but if he decides to move on, then we have to bring someone else in to replace him who can come in and compete," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"I have spoken to somebody else. He is a young player who unfortunately has dislocated his shoulder twice, which has effectively ruled him out of much of the last couple of seasons."
