La Liga - Real: We have no Ronaldo deal

Eurosport - Fri, 22 May 14:58:00 2009

Real Madrid have "categorically denied" media reports they have a pre-contract agreement to sign Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

FOOTBALL Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates scoring his side's second goal against Arsenal at the Emirates in the Champions League semi-final second leg - 0

Madrid have long been linked with a move for the Portugal international and there has been speculation in the media that the Spanish giants already have a deal in place for the 24-year-old.

Reports in the media claimed former Madrid president Ramon Calderon had negotiated a pre-contract agreement with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes, but the Spanish giants have released a statement denying any such deal is in place.

"In relation to the reports that have appeared in several media in the last few hours regarding the alleged signing of the Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo, the club want to categorically deny said information," the statement read.

"There exists no pre-agreement, neither with the player, nor with his agent, nor with Manchester United.

"As is well known, Real Madrid tried to sign the player last summer and Manchester United made it clear that the player was not transferable."

  2. Man Utd will survive with or without Ronaldo. SAF had won without Ronaldo before, and he'll do it again. I remember reading that Man Utd is currently in debt for more than $600 (was it USDollar or Pound?). Also, the owner of Man Utd also own a bunch of mall in the US. Because of the economic downturn, a lot of shops closed up, which hit Man Utd's owner pretty hard.

  6. i_cottrell,

As a United fan I can say I am not worried about the future after Fergie. SAF will stay another 5 years and during that time United will almost certainly have won 4-5 more PLs, 3-4 more CLs and established themselves as the most dominant English football team over a 25 year period in the history of football - a team more dominant than that of Liverpool in the 70s and 80s. All great eras are defined by beginnings and ends though. It would be fitting in a way if United's era of dominance ended when SAF leaves. On the other hand, Mourinho will most likely step in so it's not that likely to end at all, is it?

  7. United will most likely keep Ronaldo, sell Tevez to a weaker club like Liverpool, and then sign Kaka and Valencia.

    United next season:

    1. Van Der Saar,
    2. Brown/O'Shea/Da Silva,
    3. Evra,
    4. Vidic,
    5. Ferdinand,
    6. Carrick/Scholes,
    7. Ronaldo,
    8. Hargreaves/Anderson/Fletcher,
    9. Rooney,
    10. Kaka/Berbatov,
    11. Valencia/Giggs/Park

    subs:
    Evans, Foster, Wellbeck, Macheda, Neville

OY BENITEZ!!!! YES YOU'RE RIGHT, YOU CAN'T COMPETE WITH UNITED OFF THE PITCH OR ON AND IT'S BECAUSE FERGIE HAS BUILT UP THIS EMPIRE OVER 20 YEARS....YOU WILL NEVER GET THE CHANCE PORKY!

im not a man u person but tell evry man u person that care to listen that if teves is going ronaldo should not and if ronaldo is going teves should not. i hate to imagine what will become of man u if their best two leave same time. it may be a difficult task making the top 4 next season, all the young strikers need time to mature before you chase away your experienced talents. ferguson should not try what wenger did to arsenal fans thinking it's all about the coach, he can use anybody to get result

  12. My thoughts are - who will go when Fergie retires? Giggs and Scholes will be spending their Saturdays shopping in the Trafford Centre, Rio also.
Rooney will stay but while the team suffers a complete restructure and adapts to a different style, a couple of seasons going out of the CL during the group stages with not a sniff at the PL and he will probably start to reconsider also.
    Ronnie obviously will leave.
It is a situation kinda like death itself. We all know it will happen but put it to the bacl of our mind in the hope tht it won't.
Who else of the current top dogs do you guys think will stay at the club through thick and thin and who will feel the inevitable trophy hangover once Fergie walks away?

  13. Well done Man United. RM need a reality check on this type of stuff and what they did in trying to "entice" him away with public statements etc was outrageous. The only reason RM have said this is because Man U are probably going to report them to eufa again if they dont.

  14. As a Manchester United fan... I really hope Ronaldo does stay, and no matter what you think of him as a person and character, you cannot deny his outstanding abilities as a footballer... I think he'll stay for another season or 2... But even though Real are nowhere near what they once were... its a boyhood dream for the lad to one day play for them... and I believe that its an inevitability that some day he will
