Jose Mourinho is hopeful of tempting his former player Ricardo Carvalho away from Chelsea to join him at Serie A champions Internazionale.
The Portugal defender, who played under his compatriot at Porto and Chelsea, was linked to Inter after Mourinho took over last season but a deal never materialised.
"Carvalho is one of the best central defenders in the world," Mourinho told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"A year ago it was impossible to think of him. Now I think it is."
Mourinho said Inter were also interested in signing Dutch club Twente Enschede's 20-year-old Austrian winger Marko Arnautovic.

also with regard to comment 7 from papaogos
quaresma is on loan to us (and won't come back as joe cole will be fit after summer)
di santo has already proven he's a worthy deputy striker
mancienne IS going to be a world-class international defender one day
ferreria is old and will either leave in summer or see out his contract with us (and he's not bad backup)
but stoch and kakuta could do with some first-team experience, maybe Championship or French League
so until you can learn to spell, and can made valid, knowledgable comments, please don't bother
I disagree with the fact that carvahlo is the world's best defender, for the same reason I'd disagree with people saying the same about Rio Ferdinand, because their central partners and supporting midfielders are incredible.
There's no denying that Ricardo and Rio are top-draw defenders, but if it wasn't for Terry and Essien, and Vidic and Carrick respectively, they woudln't look quite so formidable. Even then they have Cech and Van Der Sar backing them up, so on the occasions that the ball does get through, they've got 2 of the best making sure clean sheets are intact.
I'm a die-hard Chelsea fan, but must admit that I'd have Rio in my team over Carvahlo any day of the week, and to be honest I'd rather have Alex or Ivanovic paired with JT week-in week-out. So Mr Mourihno, open your chequebook and take him off our hands, he's good, but we've got better...

3.one of the best in the world?what a joke

Think you spelt your first name wrong mate.
Rio Ferdinand thinks hes really cool with that stupid internet magazine he has , well he is a dumb cokney
don't sell him...........if you do.......Chelsea will have do more defending stuff to win a game.............
rio is better then every chelsea player
dont sell him pls,he is better than shirt tugging vidic and drug ?????? rio put together
average time spent in injury should determine who to go. carvalho, deco are unavailable most of the time due to injury, they should go
chelsea has a lot of training materials - ferreira, manciennes, kakuta (ghost worker), quaresma, stoch, santos - 6 out of 25 (25%)puts so much pressure on others. chase them away on loans or outright sales aand let their positions be vacant
carvalho should stay at s/bridge. he is great, there is absolutely no need of selling him.Chelsea hav a good squad but they are only lacking a coach. We need a coach like hiddink. Carvaho for chelsea. mimbulu family
he is easily one of the best in the world... technically brilliant, with a good footballing brain on him.
he's lost a few yards of pace with age, but gained experience to make up for it.
he is one of the best, man uniteds vidic cant even defend drogba without holding his shirt or wrestling him.....
one of the best in the world?what a joke
Sell him, buy Mertaseker he is only 24 or so... Decent swop
Id let gim go while we can still get the money. he is great but ale has proven his worth and with ivanovich and mancienne as cover we are sorted.
carvalho is often injured these days. his ezperience would be missed though
