Samaras dubs Gers long-ball merchants

Georgios Samaras has added fuel to an already potentially-explosive finale in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League by claiming Rangers play inferior football to Celtic.

While Celtic boss Gordon Strachan was reluctant to discuss Rangers ahead of another exciting end to an SPL season, Greek striker Samaras was ignoring unwritten rules surrounding mutual respect between the Old Firm clubs.

"We are two teams who don't play the same way," he said. "We are better than Rangers. We are a team who likes to play football. At Celtic, we prefer to pass the ball and create chances."

He added: "This is how the gaffer wants us to play. We have also won the title three times in a row with this type of football. But Rangers play another type of football.

"Rangers have something which maybe we don't have - they like to battle, to play long balls into the box and just fight.

"We want to enjoy the game when we go out onto the park, and we want our supporters to enjoy it, and we want the people at home watching us to enjoy it.

"We don't want people to change the TV channel if they are watching us."

  1. I'm a Tim, but what Samaras says is a bit stupid,­ even if the we get the title this afternoon. What's­ the point of being supposedly better than the Clangers­ if at the end of the season there's just one or two­ points difference? The problem is Strachan - he got rid­ of good players because they 'don't fit­ Celtic's style'. @#$%. Jock Stein would examine­ his opponents before playing them and adapt­ Celtic's style to beat them. Under Strachan Celtic­ are laboured and predictable, whish is why they lose­ matches to supposedly worse sides. In my opinion Smith­ and McCoist do a better job at Clangers with a far­ worse pool of players.

  4. i'm a celtic fan and i agree with what paul g has­ to say he's missed too many good chances to win­ very important games which we drew. samaras needs to­ get a haircut and have a shave oh yeah and learn how to­ control a football because he's s.h.i.t.e!!! sell­ him before he becomes another bobo balde sitting on the­ bench making 30,000 a week!!

  5. Celtic always punt it up the park to there 2 tall donky­ forwards. Samar a.s.s cant control a ball never mind­ dribble past people, all he depends on is the ball­ being punted up the park to him is it not? YES Donkey­ boy is the one who has lost celtic the league and he­ knows it.

Connor get out a bit more m8....Rangers can play­ football but do like all the other teams revert to the­ long ball when required....Sammy is correct...Celtic do­ have more creative players that want to get the ball­ down at play. The crab has gone, Mendes bubble is­ burst....Davis is quality as is Thomson and I do hope­ he comes back the same player as b 4...Edu jury still­ out. Lose the league this weekend and Rangers are­ fooked.....
