Wolfsburg to enter Hleb chase

Sun 22 Jun, 12:00 PM

Wolfsburg are ready to throw their hat into the ring for unsettled Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb, according to reports in Germany.Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are believed to be leading the race to sign the Belarus international, who wants to leave the Gunners.

But now, Hleb's former coach from his Stuttgart days Felix Magath, wants to make him his third big-name signing this summer after acquiring Italian World Cup winners Cristian Zaccardo and Andrea Barzagli from Palermo.

"Alexander Hleb is a very interesting player," said Wolves manager Magath in the Wolfsburger Nachrichten newspaper. "He came to me at Stuttgart and became a regular first-team player there."

Wolfsburg are backed by automobile manufacturers Volkswagen, who are based in the northern Germany city, and the reported 15-million-euro price tag would not be a problem. Magath is keen on building a strong squad for next season after leading the club into the UEFA Cup in his first year in charge.

  1. arsenal should be doing everything in their power to keep Hleb ~ he was their best player most of last season, and certainly their most consistant. if he is determined to leave, fine, but if they have any chance of keeping him, they should try ~ i can't see him being replaced as easily as flamini or adebayor.

  2. An unsettled or unhappy player is not an asset but a Liability. Let Alex go with our thanks and lets move on.

  3. I never see the point in trying to keep players if they want to leave , so sell them on and buy players who see their future with Arsenal. Players have to be committed to the club if you want to get the best from them.

  4. alex's a gifted player but there'll be others. If he doesn't want to be here then let him go. We need players who are committed to arsenal.

  5. Haha such a good player like Alex will never join a Bundesliga side again! I hope he'll at the Emirates and will win some silverware next season! The Premier League or the Champiosleague would be great and it is possible to do!!
