I would pay 100m euros for Ronaldo, says Schuster

BERLIN (AFP) - Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster on Sunday said he would pay 100 million euros (157 million dollars) for the services of Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

"For such a player we will pay what is necessary because what counts for us is to win the Champions League," he told German TV station DSF.

Ronaldo has consistently been linked with the nine-times European champions but Manchester United have repeatedly said the player - whose contract runs until 2012 - is definitely not for sale.

United earlier this month reported Real to UEFA for trying to unsettle their prize asset, currently on a 120,000 pounds-a-week contract but who could see that sum double if he switched to the Bernabeu.

Schuster on Sunday said he fully understood United's reactions over the affair, adding: "When you have a player of such quality you don't let him go."

After Portugal were ousted from the Euro 2008 last week following a 3-2 defeat to Germany, the 23-year-old star said he would announce his future intentions in "two to three days".

When asked about a move to Real, Ronaldo said: "It's a big possibility, but it doesn't just depend on me."

He said he hoped to talk to United bosses, and seemed to leave no doubts over his preferred destination, saying: "Everyone knows what I want, and what my dream is."

  1. I have 2 agree with bill b. Real don't seem to learn from their mistakes. They buy costly players to actually then realise these players don't fit with the team. Remember Beckham..Owen..Ronaldo ( Brazil )

  2. At that price they can have him...that way Rooney can resort to playing his natural role and Utd can buy a proper target man or that Russian bloke
