Button shrugs off Silverstone F1 setback

Mon 22 Jun, 09:31 AM

SILVERSTONE, England (AFP) - World championship leader Jenson Button shrugged off his disappointing British Grand Prix on Monday and insisted normal service will be resumed at the next race in Germany.

The British driver was sixth on Sunday, 46sec behind Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull but still has a healthy 23-point lead in the title race over Brawn GP teammate Rubens Barrichello and a 25-point advantage over Vettel.

"Red Bull have made a big improvement. They have got a lot of new parts in the car. But there are two other things as well. This circuit is very high speed, probably not our best part of the car. Also, it was cold," said Button.

"We can't get the tyres to work (in those temperatures). And there's hardly any braking here. Braking is the strongest point in our car. But here, you never hit the pedal that hard.

"So I'm not going to go away very disappointed. I lost seven points to Vettel, which is disappointing. But we could have come away with a worse result."

Button is convinced conditions in Germany will suit him more.

"Nurburgring is one the heavy-braking circuits. I know Red Bull's package is good but it will turn round. I'm not upset."

  3. It's a way of life I'm afraid...the Media loves to turn a hiccup into The Plague, as you say JB Nurburgring is a heavy breaking circuit where the Brawn can 'work' it's tyres better...no worries mate!

  4. So Button didn't get a podium on one race, I agree with Devine, lets NOT get ahead of ourselves. How quickly people turn, they , the media and commentators are aleady writing him off in favour of Red Bull. Its true they have greatly improved there car and it all makes for interesting and more exciting races having a good mix. We as a country need something great to shout about so lets get behind Jenson and 'hope' he wins the championship, he certainly deserves it. I rate Ross Brawn highly and feel if anyone can do it he can with a fair car, a good driver and his experience we stand a pretty fair chance.

  5. One race does not make a season. Last year Honda would've killed to have that finish. Other teams are continuing to develop new parts. Now the lack of money may start to show as the season goes on. The Honda resources got the car this far. Can Brawn find and make the needed changes the rest of the season? It's too bad they don't have a major sponsor on their car. They have clearly had the best car early this season.
