League One - Keegan 'not certain' of Saints job

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Jun 16:28:00 2009

Southampton legend Matthe Le Tissier has revealed Kevin Keegan is not the only man he has talked to about the managerial vacancy should he complete his takeover of the League One club.

FOOTBALL Kevin Keegan - 0

Le Tissier remains hopeful his Pinnacle Consortium can overcome their recent frustrations to complete their takeover - with a second consortium insisting it has the cash in place to buy Saints should the former England international's bid dramatically fail.

Keegan has been heavily linked with a return to Southampton but Le Tissier told Sky Sports News: "Kevin is not the only one I have sat down and talked to. I have sat down and talked to a lot of my contacts in the game.

"We need to clarify the manager's position and we will look at that, I have spoken to a lot of people and taken a lot of advice and when the takeover is complete we will sit down and talk about it.

"For me this is a new job and I need to gather as much information as I can and there are several other people I have spoken to and no decision on a new manager has been made.

"Unfortunately Kevin was pictured and the papers got hold of it and everyone put two and two together."

  1. There's no going to be a club to manage now 'Le God' has pulled out. Shame. Bye bye Scummers.

  2. rather keegan than reid neither is a real option as i said before we need a young englsh coach with some experience like clough who love the club and love football

  3. to get a club at its lowest level & then pump money in & overhaul it - only to stick KK in the driving seat is madness.

  4. if Keegan did the dirty once he will do it again, mark my words.

  5. Keegan did the dirty when he left Saints, but his record in bringing clubs up to the Premier League is second to none.
He has the experience, contacts & reputation to motivate the players.
I think he messes up at the very top because he doesn't undrstand the defensive aspects of the game so much.
So he may well be the man for the job, as it stands presently, but not if they were ever challenging the very top sometime in the future.
Lets face it, Saints problem has always been when they had second rate pros as manager & coach.
In his time he was the best in Europe, I was in Germany when he was playing there & he was .... hot !!!
With the maestro overseeing things, does anyone know more about skill than him, then this could be a match made in heaven.
    C'mon Saints !!!
