Serie A - Chelsea green light for Pirlo

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Jun 09:37:00 2009

AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has said the Serie A club is open to offers for Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Serie A Milan Andrea Pirlo - 0

"If there's an offer, it should be considered," the Italian Premier said in La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about Pirlo, amid speculation he could join former Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.

"We'll see. I was the first to say that he must stay, but then they showed me the sums (for his salary)."

The seven-times European champions had previously said no more big names would move on after they sold Brazil playmaker Kaka to Real Madrid for a reported fee of 68 million euros earlier this month.

  1. both pirlo and chelsea will be making a big mistake.. scolari tried to do the same thing when he bought deco in last year and they started well as deco was dictating the play and anelka was scoring.. however when that stopped, all of a sudden deco was no longer wanted at chelsea and he seemed disinterested. It seems like thats what managers do these days.. leave a top club or a top football country, go to another club and try bring in their midfielder they know and trust and start the same thing they have over the last place they were.. Thats not going to work with chelsea.. as long as lampard is over there.

I love this forum everyone is an expert coach/manager genius, each one of you should have applied for the managerial job at Chelsea, perhaps, Mr. Abrahmovich is a real fool to have hired Carlo Ancelotti, after all Carletto, is a nobody according to your expertise! Why all of nincompoops just bug off!! Just return to your janitorial jobs.

  11. i watch all the major leagues in europe and still think the seria a is about the worst going premiership is the best that why foreign billionaires want to buy there teams cause thay get good football not a bunch of rascist italians who even have a go at black players who play for there team.

  12. comment 20.

you see this is exactly what i mean. he hasn't watch serie A for 20 years, yet still manages to spew a load of utter @#$%. Serie A has produced more goals in a season that any of the european major leagues for three seasons in a row. The top three teams in the league all play with a trindent attack...yet we have idiots who still live in the 1960s.

bribery and corruption? you mean the problems that we decided to deal with back in 2006? Half of the premier league clubs would go into admin if their russian / arab / american benifactors left. The whole league is running on non productive debt.

Diving? you must be kidding me.

As for racism. This coming from a country that attacks hard working romanian immigrants. The very country that has now voted 2 BNP ministers into the EU parliament.

  13. No. 19: Coming from a league of racism, corruption, bribery, diving and all out defensive play, you should really think twice before putting down any other league...

  14. The replies to this article is the absolute indictment of just how clueless and narrow-minded british fans are. Really, do you ever look beyond your shores? do you ever plan to appreciate a little more than your arab, russian and american fueled premiershit?

Italy were in dire form last night against Brazil. Yet the undoubted shining light of the team was Andrea, who dribbled past melo, gilberto more times than the number of goals scored on the night.

I would be devastated if he leaves. But I would be even more devastated if he goes to a country as narrow minded as England.

  15. if chealsea got pirlo that would defo mean that LAMPARD can have a free roll in the middle with essien the holding player.......what a midfield that would be, no 1 would b able to come close to them 3! all we need now is 1 more class of a striker? i think ETO fits that roll perfect...........come on the blues.......

From robertlorentson, on Mon 22 Jun 1:24PM
  16. Pirlo still has some good years ahead of him...he should fit well with Chelsea's geezers :))

  17. It's about time that Chelsea started using talented youngsters to get the experience of the premier league, just like Arsenal did, with a lot of sucess. First get rid of Ballack and Deco. We don't want anymore O.A.P's.

From Sid, on Mon 22 Jun 12:41PM
  18. Great player and very silky but Im afraid we dont need him and I dont see how hw would get in the team. and if were looking for players for when the africans leave then we need to look at giving younger players a chance at that time.

go for the young boy Ozil instead

pirlo will have the shock of his life if he comes to the prem a reported 20m fee come on the man the blues need is alonso of liverpool he would allow lampard to play even further up the field with him and essien playing the stronghold the midfield would be the stongest in the prem so @#$% off pirlo and stay at the most corrupt team in italy

Seriously? Whats up with all this talk of Milan's over the hill players moving over to England? Pirlo, Maldini, and Gattuso.. if you can't cut it in Italy, you'd get run over in England. These guys are all 2 years from retirement, except Maldini, he's 2 years past retirement. I hope Chelsea does pick up these guys so I can piss myself laughing when they miss out on another league title.
