Transfers - Your view: Where now for Tevez?

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Jun 09:20:00 2009

After rejecting Manchester United's five-year contract offer, Carlos Tevez must now decide where his future lies, with Chelsea and Manchester City reportedly in the running.

2009 Manchester United Carlos Tevez - 0

A statement on the club's website said they had agreed to pay £25.5 million for the Argentine striker, but their contract offer was rejected.

Chelsea and Manchester City are understood to be the two clubs leading the chase for Tevez's signature, but where do you think the forward should ply his trade?

Here are some of your best comments:

Easy bloom: Tevez deserves to be paid more than Berbatov for obvious reasons; we all know, including Sir Alex. Fergie gave him less games to play so as to lower his value for when they could buy him, but it has backfired horribly. Each time he got the chance to play he showed what he is so h e deserves that money.

Brownt2002: Tevez will be missed but United only have themselves to blame for keeping him hanging on so long. He is a grafter who likes to live life without being in the limelight all the time - unlike a lot of British players. Best of luck at your new club Carlos.

Martinshimmin: I wish Tevez luck, but to be honest, I'm not sad to see him go as a player. This season his performances in general have been poor. You cannot pay £26 million for a worse Wayne Rooney clone. At the end of the day, if everyone is fit, I can't see him making the first team, and that is a lot of money for a substitute. We have never replaced Ruud van Nisterlrooy, and need an out-and-out striker who plays on the shoulder of the last defender, not another striker who likes to come deep as we have two of those players already. Bring in Karim Benzema.

StevE: Is Tevez worth the money? None of them are worth that sort of money, not a single one. There are a miniscule amount of players in the professional game who will be at any of the clubs for anything other than personal advantage and gain. That is not cynical, it is a fact of life. Football is a great game that has been ruined by this exorbitant financial situation along with players who claim to be tired because they have had a long season or played more than a game per week (utter rubbish, they run for about twenty minutes in a game).

Alison: If he has any sense he should come to Manchester City where he will be appreciated and treated right.

Craig C: Tevez is worth every penny he is paid - he is a true player who plays from the heart! He never lets the team down, whoever he plays for.

Ashley: Tevez has been a brilliant servant for United over the past two seasons and has scored some very important goals for us along the way, but he's not a natural goalscorer and that is exactly what we need now Ronaldo has gone. Rooney's goal return should be better next season but to pay Tevez £110,000 a week when he barely reaches double figures in goal scoring would have been stupid. He may run around a lot - but like Park Ji-Sung he's bad in the final third of the pitch and that's the position he's paid to be in and do well.

The Ridster: I wish the FA would step in and cap player's earnings to 55K a week but allow clubs to pay bonuses at the end of a season depending on the success of the team. I agree that footballers should be paid well and that their careers are limited but with sponsorship money and other revenues these guys earn fortunes on top of their basic pay. I bet any number of fans would be willing to play for their club on just one week's wage. They have the best job in the world and some of the money being thrown around is just ridiculous. In short, no player is worth that kind of money.

  1. even chelsea are think tevez isnt worth the money they want so city are the only one's prepared to buy him. he's good worker for the team but for that amount of money you want someone prolific. rooneys not a prolific goal scorer but he creates so much for the team, berbatov needs step up or this will be his last season at united.

  5. I mean it may be stupid that he gets less money than berbatov, but it is more stupid paying him more than Rooney and I didn't like Berba this season but neither do I liked Tevez both had good and bad games the only thing is that I appreciated Tevez giving his best. So the thing is Rooney needs someone to help him he has the "never die attitude" along with better class than Tevez. I mean same happenes with Heinze just because you are a good player doesn't mean you deserve more than the others fans like more Heinze than Evra, but Evra is better. Fans like more Tevez than Berba, but they are both equally effective the problem is Berba fits better with Rooney and between Rooney and Tevez you choose Rooney

  6. Here's how I look at it...this all went down after the Ronaldo deal, so if ManU wanted to keep tevez, they would have. While I respect him as a player, Tevez wanted to leave. Why? Because he didn't get enough play time. Should United pay 26 mil. for somebody who doesn't get a lot of play time? No. ManU did well withoyut Tevez as a frequent starter. Hell, they won the premier league...I say good luck, but good riddance.

  9. City already got Robinho,Bellamy,Santa Cruz,Bojinov,Benjani,Ireland,Caicedo,Elano e.t.c as Strikerz why Chelsea got mainly Drogba and Anelka as their top Forward so i see greater chances of Tevez playing in Chelsea more than in Man City.

  10. Good ridance to the little moaner, all he did this season was moan when he should have been training to get back into the team. I liked him, but with all his public comments I'm fairly glad to see him go. And believe me he is going for money, he's not going to Liverpool cos he doesn't wanna upset the fans, rubbish, Liverpool wouldn't meet the jumped up price for a non-prolific goalscorer and his wage demands, your welcome to him City, I hope he costs you the world

  11. Hey!! i think Tevez just made a decision which is best known to Him, if He is leaving Man U, i would suggest He goes to Chelsea cuz thats where He will have greater chances of playing following Drogba's ban in some games, and by the time Drogba gets back He must have impressed a lot. But Man U loosing two of their solid playerz i wonder how they are going to handle it this season. Am not a Man U Fan, but if i was to advice Fergie i will tell Him to feature Nani often more than Anderson.....! tc & bye

  13. Question. your working for a company on a temp contract you work really hard but dont seem to get the recognition you feel you deserve, you dont get on with the manager and feel like your not valued by him.
After 2 years of being treated like an outsider a man comes along and says I think your a hard worker come and work for me I will pay you more money and give you some respect, in return I want you to keep working hard and If we reach our Targets I will reward you with bonuses.

    What would you do?

Take the offer from the boss you dont see eye to eye with, and has kept you on a temp contract for 2 years or take the full time job on more money.

From James, on Mon 22 Jun 12:15PM
  14. don, agree with you about Ronaldo, negotiations dont START until 30 June, so it will be interesting to see what happens, might be one of those pay by instalment jobs depending on goals etc and i think he is going to find himself a smaller fish in a much bigger pond in Spain

From the silent assassin, on Mon 22 Jun 11:57AM
  15. And if you look at the depleated Manure squad take away the fat balding angry Rooney who have you got?
Villa now look a better team, Ashley Young is far better than Rooney and not got the bad attitude man u sinking fast and the new season cant start soon enough. PS where is all this Ronaldo money isnt he still contracted to Manure? It would be so funny if madrid let this ongoing saga run on for weeks then found a problem with the deal and then refused to pay 80 mill, United are in a bad situation Madrid have all the cards and will play United like a puppet on a string.

From Don, on Mon 22 Jun 11:49AM
  16. well said Don but the point is both Ron and Tevez had pledged themselves to Utd not too long ago, in Rons case only a month ago, and now the money man comes calling and off they go without a backward glance, no truth, no loyalty. Tevez is not his own man, hes controlled by his agent, nothing more than a puppet unfortunately

From the silent assassin, on Mon 22 Jun 11:48AM
  17. I remember a player called Forlan being shipped out by old red nose because he wanted regular football, turned out United done him a favour he went to Spain where he could express himself and not be told to sit on the bench by stalanist fergie.

Tevez is taking a step up not down how can sitting on the bench help his progress.
And as for all the tit for tat name calling of Tevez he was only on loan and never a Manc player on a full term contract so he can do pretty much as he pleases,

From Don, on Mon 22 Jun 11:41AM
  18. tevez will go where his agent can get the most money, nothing to do with ambition or loyalty, thats been proved over the last week. If you believe whats in the paper his agent has got what he asked for and hes still not happy. We only want people who want to play for the club and clearly now he doesnt

From the silent assassin, on Mon 22 Jun 11:33AM
  19. I am more disappointed at seeing Tevez leave than i was when i heard news ronaldo was leaving. I am sure most would agree that Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world but he is not as a team player as tevez nor he puts in the same ammount of energy when playing.

Given ronaldos departure im pretty sure teves would have found himself more often on the strating line up at united with rooney playing as a winger. But he was treated unfairly and i can understand the reason why he wants to leave. I wish him luck wherever he goes.

    A disappointed United fan.

From ernest, on Mon 22 Jun 10:44AM
  20. work rate is nothing if he have no recpect to club, manager and now he might move to united city rival or team who give united preasure in past 5 season
