Transfers - Your view: Where now for Tevez?

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Jun 09:20:00 2009

After rejecting Manchester United's five-year contract offer, Carlos Tevez must now decide where his future lies, with Chelsea and Manchester City reportedly in the running.

2009 Manchester United Carlos Tevez - 0

A statement on the club's website said they had agreed to pay £25.5 million for the Argentine striker, but their contract offer was rejected.

Chelsea and Manchester City are understood to be the two clubs leading the chase for Tevez's signature, but where do you think the forward should ply his trade?

Here are some of your best comments:

Easy bloom: Tevez deserves to be paid more than Berbatov for obvious reasons; we all know, including Sir Alex. Fergie gave him less games to play so as to lower his value for when they could buy him, but it has backfired horribly. Each time he got the chance to play he showed what he is so h e deserves that money.

Brownt2002: Tevez will be missed but United only have themselves to blame for keeping him hanging on so long. He is a grafter who likes to live life without being in the limelight all the time - unlike a lot of British players. Best of luck at your new club Carlos.

Martinshimmin: I wish Tevez luck, but to be honest, I'm not sad to see him go as a player. This season his performances in general have been poor. You cannot pay £26 million for a worse Wayne Rooney clone. At the end of the day, if everyone is fit, I can't see him making the first team, and that is a lot of money for a substitute. We have never replaced Ruud van Nisterlrooy, and need an out-and-out striker who plays on the shoulder of the last defender, not another striker who likes to come deep as we have two of those players already. Bring in Karim Benzema.

StevE: Is Tevez worth the money? None of them are worth that sort of money, not a single one. There are a miniscule amount of players in the professional game who will be at any of the clubs for anything other than personal advantage and gain. That is not cynical, it is a fact of life. Football is a great game that has been ruined by this exorbitant financial situation along with players who claim to be tired because they have had a long season or played more than a game per week (utter rubbish, they run for about twenty minutes in a game).

Alison: If he has any sense he should come to Manchester City where he will be appreciated and treated right.

Craig C: Tevez is worth every penny he is paid - he is a true player who plays from the heart! He never lets the team down, whoever he plays for.

Ashley: Tevez has been a brilliant servant for United over the past two seasons and has scored some very important goals for us along the way, but he's not a natural goalscorer and that is exactly what we need now Ronaldo has gone. Rooney's goal return should be better next season but to pay Tevez £110,000 a week when he barely reaches double figures in goal scoring would have been stupid. He may run around a lot - but like Park Ji-Sung he's bad in the final third of the pitch and that's the position he's paid to be in and do well.

The Ridster: I wish the FA would step in and cap player's earnings to 55K a week but allow clubs to pay bonuses at the end of a season depending on the success of the team. I agree that footballers should be paid well and that their careers are limited but with sponsorship money and other revenues these guys earn fortunes on top of their basic pay. I bet any number of fans would be willing to play for their club on just one week's wage. They have the best job in the world and some of the money being thrown around is just ridiculous. In short, no player is worth that kind of money.

  1. Seriously United fans crying about wages and transfere fee's when United help creat the monster with there transfere policy of paying 20-30 million for average players, and then in the same breath say sign this that and the other Eto would want double the wages Teves wanted and yet United fans say Buy the old striker Eto with no EPL experiance. Do you United fans not have any knowledge of football.

  4. tasdeon Liverpool beat United last season without Torres and Gerrard in the team United had Both Ronaldo and Tevez in theres relegation battle I like the sound of that dont think It will be the red of Liverpool who have been creeping up on Utd for the last few seasons though cant wait for the season to star.

  5. Who cares about Man U and all the players who are leaving, Tevez isnt really that good his stats where worse than Dirk Kuyt at liverpool who scored more goals and created more assists and he runs his socks off every game and all for a reasonable 8 million. As for Tevez I couldnt care less if the retired on the money hes made of UTD in the last 2 years.

  11. Tevez should forget Man U they doesn't value him, that was why Man U gave him less playing time just to reduce his value. He only asked for peanut money compare to what he can do in the field of play. However, Tevez should be wise in the choice of club. I strongly believe that Man city is a better place for him. 14. United will miss Tevez but I think that they will miss Ronaldo more.Tevez is a good player, yes and I hope he goes to a club where he will play every game. Now United will miss Ronaldo and Tevez but they don't need more than 1 striker. Their problem is at the midfield. Scholes and Giggs are too old to play all 90 minutes and Fletcher and Anderson aren't the right replacements. They need some replacements for these guys. They need a playmaker that can pass the ball and eventually score. And ofcourse they need a replacement for Ronaldo. I don't think that Ribery is their man.Yes, he is a good player but he is just not that kind of player that they need. Valencia, well he is young and that is good.He has big potential. But they never will find a player like Ronaldo. A fast winger that can play everywhete:centre, right, left, behind the striker.Manchester are blessed that they have Rooney who can play everywhere too, but they have a BIG scoring hole that they have to fit.

  15. Tevez~i think ferguson should let him go. hes not worth 110,000 pounds a week. thats rubbish. benzema would be a better choice. He's young and tallented n would be able to adapt to play english football. Onother player is Eto'o, he may be old but his form was unbelievable. he scored many goals and is a strong player like drogba.

p.s.= im a chelsea fan so i dun really care but this is my opinion.

  18. It's obvious where Tevez is going next...to whoever will pay him the most money. He'd play for Berwick in the Scottish league if the price was right for him and his agent.

    From bigbrother09447, on Sun 21 Jun 3:54PM
  19. - In Chelsea i see him as the second striker on the opposite side from Joe Cole:

     Drogba /Anelka
    Tevez------ --------Joe Cole

    - In ManCity as his old position CF:

    Tevez
    Robinho------- ----------Wright-Philips

    I'd give both combos a 9/10.

With Chelsea he'd compete for the title against Liverpool, with ManCity challenge Arsenal for the 4th spot.

    From Fergie_in_2_Years_Time, on Sun 21 Jun 3:29PM
  20. Regarding on the pitch, making a trio with the likes of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba would be a formidable attacking force, but working alongside players like Robinho, Daniel Sturridge or even Craig Bellamy would be a (Real) treat.
