Transfers - Your view: Where now for Tevez?

Eurosport - Mon, 22 Jun 09:20:00 2009

After rejecting Manchester United's five-year contract offer, Carlos Tevez must now decide where his future lies, with Chelsea and Manchester City reportedly in the running.

2009 Manchester United Carlos Tevez - 0

A statement on the club's website said they had agreed to pay £25.5 million for the Argentine striker, but their contract offer was rejected.

Chelsea and Manchester City are understood to be the two clubs leading the chase for Tevez's signature, but where do you think the forward should ply his trade?

Here are some of your best comments:

Easy bloom: Tevez deserves to be paid more than Berbatov for obvious reasons; we all know, including Sir Alex. Fergie gave him less games to play so as to lower his value for when they could buy him, but it has backfired horribly. Each time he got the chance to play he showed what he is so h e deserves that money.

Brownt2002: Tevez will be missed but United only have themselves to blame for keeping him hanging on so long. He is a grafter who likes to live life without being in the limelight all the time - unlike a lot of British players. Best of luck at your new club Carlos.

Martinshimmin: I wish Tevez luck, but to be honest, I'm not sad to see him go as a player. This season his performances in general have been poor. You cannot pay £26 million for a worse Wayne Rooney clone. At the end of the day, if everyone is fit, I can't see him making the first team, and that is a lot of money for a substitute. We have never replaced Ruud van Nisterlrooy, and need an out-and-out striker who plays on the shoulder of the last defender, not another striker who likes to come deep as we have two of those players already. Bring in Karim Benzema.

StevE: Is Tevez worth the money? None of them are worth that sort of money, not a single one. There are a miniscule amount of players in the professional game who will be at any of the clubs for anything other than personal advantage and gain. That is not cynical, it is a fact of life. Football is a great game that has been ruined by this exorbitant financial situation along with players who claim to be tired because they have had a long season or played more than a game per week (utter rubbish, they run for about twenty minutes in a game).

Alison: If he has any sense he should come to Manchester City where he will be appreciated and treated right.

Craig C: Tevez is worth every penny he is paid - he is a true player who plays from the heart! He never lets the team down, whoever he plays for.

Ashley: Tevez has been a brilliant servant for United over the past two seasons and has scored some very important goals for us along the way, but he's not a natural goalscorer and that is exactly what we need now Ronaldo has gone. Rooney's goal return should be better next season but to pay Tevez £110,000 a week when he barely reaches double figures in goal scoring would have been stupid. He may run around a lot - but like Park Ji-Sung he's bad in the final third of the pitch and that's the position he's paid to be in and do well.

The Ridster: I wish the FA would step in and cap player's earnings to 55K a week but allow clubs to pay bonuses at the end of a season depending on the success of the team. I agree that footballers should be paid well and that their careers are limited but with sponsorship money and other revenues these guys earn fortunes on top of their basic pay. I bet any number of fans would be willing to play for their club on just one week's wage. They have the best job in the world and some of the money being thrown around is just ridiculous. In short, no player is worth that kind of money.

  2. Tevez is a decent player with a high work-rate (although not necessarily good enough strike-rate). Still, judging from the amount paid for players these days, the fact that he has settled into the United team and he was crucial with some others for the League and Champions league double 2008 his demands should have been met. As United has proven over these years, a team can never be too strong and they could always cash in on him to the clubs with enough money to throw around.
On the other hand however, Man.United still lack an 18-yard box striker like Ruud. This is why I heavily criticized the signing of Berbatov, and with all that money? I'm not even sure Benzema would be the right choice, with all due respect to his talent. Ronaldo has gone, so would the goals. Roque Santa Cruz, Samuel Eto'o, Huntelaar and David Villa would be better options.

  3. Tevez did not single handedly keep West Ham up. He played a part. It was a team effort. He is a great player and I am happy to see him leave Man un as they simply don't deserve him.

  4. I am so impressed with UTD fans, every players that leaves them was never good enough. Ronaldo not good enough for united, now Tervez not good enough. Accept the competition, am sure u dont know better than the players who work and live inside united. U boys better get a brain cos u aint thinking.

  6. All these people saying Tevez won't be the same player without SAF make me laugh. Do they not remember that this is the same man who single handedly kept West Ham in the Premiership just a few years ago.

I think SAF has dropped the ball here, ok Ronaldo didn't want to be there and he needed shot of him. Tevez on the other hand just wanted to play the games, and be paid what he deserves. If Berbatov is worth 110,000 a week then Tevez certainly is.

There is absolutely no way if he was walking out of any other club any Man Utd supporter wouldn't want to sign him.

  7. The truth is Teves would have gotten more playing time if Rooney was'nt English. Granted Rooney plays with passion, his overall goals return per game is still below par. Teves deserved more playing time. He will get it in Man city, I wish him well.

  8. For me the best team for Tevez to go to is Inter. Argentinian players thrive in Italy and he needs to show his true quality. It would also be perfect for Inter for if they sold Imabromvic because they would need an experienced striker to get them the goals.

  12. Tevez, I am happy to let him go, although I admire him, its all about what we need at United, NOT how good a player he is. If any team could keep a player happily sitting on the bench now and again it would be fine but it would never happen. The reason he didnt get played was not for his lack of quality but for his style of play.

The whole reason we bought another striker was to replace the void that Van Nistlerooy left. But it was ok for a while because of the excellent scoring record Ronaldo brought to the table.
But now he's gone we need someone who can guarantee goals, week in, week out.

Tevez can't do that and for the money for his transfer AND the money he was asking for in wages, It would be ridiculous giving in to his demands considering his goal return.

If Antonio Valencia joins the club (which looks quite likely) we need a striker that is going to get on the end of the deliveries from him. Meaning we need a strong striker who is good in the air, a Drogba-esc type of player but without the moaning, bad attitude and (as of this season) rubbish finishing. If it was down to me a player like Karim Benzema would fit perfectly into our squad providing he can adapt to the English game, which I think is likely as he is a player that has the credentials to do so.

Either way I think Sir Alex knows what he's doing and wouldn't let Ronaldo go without some sort of certain back-up in mind. The reason you never hear any valid transfer rumours about United is because they always keep it all under wraps and don't let you know their plans until the last minute. Look at when we signed Anderson & Nani a couple of seasons ago. Completely unexpected.

So I have complete faith in SAF and am assured he has a plan already in progress

  13. SAF knows how to get the most out of his players, tevez will be mediocre at best anywhere else. He'll still run around, no doubt about that, but i just don't see him as a player worth 100k a week.

    From stoev8, on Sat 20 Jun 5:27PM
  14. Tevez really thinks he is bigger than MUFC, how the hell can he think he can dictate the system that SAF has in place for last decade or so? If thats his attitude with little in terms of goals to show for it then its just as well that he joins that Fairy Ronaldo out of the door. He duped MUFC fans into loving him but we see the true Tevez now. Eff Off u argentine Sh_t !

  17. i've always been a tevez fan but the way he conducted himself over the last few weeks of the season made me realise he's very immature and not to bright,i got sick of his complaining about being mistreated when he's making a 100k a week.the guy is a baby and moron he can f**k off

    From random_access88, on Sat 20 Jun 3:03PM
  20. If the interview you have just conducted with Kia Joorabchian is factually correct, particularly the point he made that Tevez has never made any demands in relation to his personal terms, then we have to look elsewhere for the cause of the split. My take is that Tevez lost his desire and commitment whilst sat on the bench or sat in his armchair watching the rubbish performances from the likes of Giggs, Scholes and Carrick and yet the manager seems to have some sort of fixation with these players who should not be part of the team. Whilst Giggs and Scholes have been great players, their performances throughout most of this season and before, have verged on the inept. They are now well past their sell by date. And Carrick's distribution is just about acceptable if he is given half an hour to choose his pass. In tight situations, his distribution is dire and he is far too slow of both foot and mind. The performances of Berbatov are also likely to have grated with Tevez when the world and its dog generally share the view that Berbatov is a lazy so and so. I am the first to admit that often, the industry put in by Tevez is completely wasteful but the point is that he is always trying to inject some measure of impetous into the team which is more than can be said of the players I have mentioned. SAF needs to get his act together otherwise he wiil completerly lose the plot and United's dominant reign will be over.
